The 92nd Major League All-Star game is tonight in Los Angeles. Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw will be the starting pitcher for the National League, while MLB ERA leader Shane McClanahan of the Rays will get the ball for the American League. On the second day of the MLB draft Monday the Brewers selected high school shortstop Dylan O’Rae in the third round. A 5-foot-9 left-handed hitter from Sarnia, Ontario, played for the Canadian Junior National Team and was the first Canadian drafted this year.
O’Rae ranked outside of MLB.com’s Top 250 Draft prospects and outside Baseball America’s Top 500, but he posted big numbers (.257/.464/.343) for the national team against advanced competition. Baseball America’s Carlos Collazo wrote that he heard from scouts about O’Rae’s running ability and defensive versatility. On Sunday, the Brewers selected Green Bay native and Preble High School graduate Max Wagner. Wagner was selected in the second round of the MLB Draft at No. 42 overall. The 2022 ACC Player of the Year had a breakout sophomore year at Clemson. He set a school record with 27 home runs, third most in school history.
The Milwaukee Bucks officially signed Pat Connaughton to a three-year, $28.27 million contract extension Monday. Connaughton averaged a career-high 9.9 points per game last season.
Former Fond du Lac Dock Spiders infielder Chandler Simpson was selected in the second round with the 70th pick by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2022 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Sunday night. Simpson becomes the highest Dock Spiders player ever drafted, surpassing outfielder John Rhodes, who was selected in the third round with the 76th overall pick by the Baltimore Orioles in 2021.
