The Brewers beat the Twins last night 6-3. Andrew McCuthchen got things going in the first inning with a line-drive home run to right field that scored Willy Adames off Minnesota starter Josh Winder, who took the loss and drops to 4-3. Winder then gave up another homer to Adames, a two-run blast in a three-run fifth inning that gave the Brewers a 5-2 lead. Milwaukee picked up another run in the sixth and Minnesota closed out the scoring with a run in the seventh. Brewers starter Jason Alexander went four innings, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out one and walking two. Jandel Gustave pitched the fifth and picked up the win to improve to 2-0. Closer Josh Hader pitched the ninth and recorded his 27th save.

San Francisco left-hander Carlos Rodón, Boston designated hitter J.D. Martinez and Miami first baseman Garrett Cooper were added Tuesday for next week’s All-Star Game. They replaced Philadelphia’s Bryce Harper and Houston’s Yordan Álvarez, who are hurt, and Milwaukee closer Josh Hader, who is skipping the July 19 game at Dodger Stadium because of family responsibilities.
Rodón made the All-Star team for the second straight season. He is 8-5 with a 2.70 ERA in 17 starts, striking out 124 and walking 32 in 100 innings. Martinez, 34, is a five-time All-Star who is hitting .313 with nine homers, 38 RBIs and 29 doubles, tied for the American League lead. He earned a $100,000 bonus for his selection.
Cooper, 31, becomes the 31st first-time All-Star this year. He is batting .299 with seven homers and 40 RBIs.
Martinez and Cooper each were next in player voting. Rodón was selected by Major League Baseball.
Hader spent a week on the paternity list in June after his son, Lucas, was born. His wife, Maria, had complications with her pregnancy.
Harper was elected as the National League’s designated hitter but broke his left thumb when hit by a pitch from San Diego’s Blake Snell on June 25. He was replaced in the starting lineup by Atlanta’s William Contreras.
Álvarez went on the injured list Sunday because of a ailing right hand that has gotten worse since he first got hurt June 18 against the Chicago White Sox.
Milwaukee Bucks All-Star forward Khris Middleton underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left wrist in early July and is expected to be fully recovered to return sometime near the start of the regular season, sources told ESPN. Middleton, who will turn 31 next month, averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.4 assists in 66 games with Milwaukee last season and was selected to his third All-Star Game. He helped lead the Bucks to the 2021 NBA title.
Middleton missed the final 10 games of Milwaukee’s playoff run this past spring after suffering a sprain of his medial collateral ligament in his left knee in Game 2 of the Bucks’ first-round series with the Chicago Bulls. Milwaukee went on to lose in seven games to the eventual Eastern Conference champion Boston Celtics in the second round.
Badgers’ senior offensive linemen Cormac Sampson reportedly will not be returning to the program this fall. Sampson, a three-star recruit from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in 2018, appeared in 32 games during his career at UW, including six starts.
The Badgers will sorely miss his versatility along the offensive line this fall; he was projected to be one of the top backup options on the interior.
Per PFF, Sampson made appearances at center, guard, tackle, and blocking tight end while donning the cardinal and white.
The Wisconsin native is moving on from the program to begin his career as an educator and will also coach football at Sun Prarie High School this fall.

The Play-In Tournament has generally been considered a success, so it was no surprise that the NBA is keeping it around. The Play-In Tournament — in its current form — has been used in each of the last two seasons, where the teams that finish seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th in the East and West meet to determine the final two playoff spots in each conference.
The No. 7 team plays the No. 8 team, with the winner clinching the No. 7 seed in the playoffs. The No. 9 team plays the No. 10 team, with the loser eliminated and the winner moving on to face the team that lost the 7-8 game. The winner of that matchup is the No. 8 seed.
