FDL Man Facing Drug And Child Neglect Charges In Brown County
A 36-year-old Fond du Lac man is facing charges in Brown County for allegedly selling two kilos of cocaine in a department store parking lot in De Pere last Thursday while he had two children in his vehicle. The two children Juan Mendez had with him were 4 and 16-years-old. He was charged Friday with cocaine trafficking, maintaining a drug trafficking place, and two counts of child neglect. Bond was set at $25,000 cash and his next court appearance is next Monday. According to the criminal complaint Mendez sold two bricks of cocaine for $54,000 to a confidential source working for police. The two children were in his vehicle when it was stopped by police. The teen was arrested and the four-year-old was placed in protective custody.
MPTC Public Hearing About Potential Referendum
The Moraine Park Technical College District Board will hold a public hearing at 5:15 tonight about a possible referendum for Moraine Park facility improvement and renovations throughout the district. MPTC President Bonnie Baerwald says the public is welcome to offer comments and get more information about the College’s intent to borrow $55 million to enhance campus learning spaces. Last month the District Board passed a resolution as the first formal step toward a potential referendum in the November election. If successful, the $55 million referendum will allow Moraine Park to borrow funds to enhance and grow MPTC facilities to meet the needs of business and industry in the region through four major projects. Baerwald says the District Board will meet August 19th and make a decision about whether to go forward with a referendum.
COVID Testing Moved During FDL County Fair
Starting today the Fond du Lac County COVID-19 testing is moving to the Church of Peace at 158 South Military Road or across from the YMCA in Fond du Lac. It’s a temporary move during the Fond du Lac County Fair. Drive-thru testing will be held in the parking lot of the Church of Peace through Friday, July 29th. Times and days will remain the same: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8 am to 4:30 pm. Testing will resume at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds on Monday, August 1st. County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says the temporary move allows Fair officials to do what they need to prep, stage, and disassemble for the Fair. COVID testing is free and available for anyone ages 2 and up, regardless of symptoms. No appointments, insurance, or identification is required. Pre-registering may speed up you visit. Registration can be handled online.
Telecommuting Policy Concerns
Green Lake County Supervisor Luke Dretske says he will continue his push to have the County’s telecommuting policy which allows employees to work from home to be reviewed. He believes if it is not being abused there is potential for abuse. He says one alleged incident involved an employee who took their kid to swim lessons yet continued to be on the clock. He says that may have been an oversight by the employee but it points to a potential abuse. Dretske says other county supervisors don’t share his fears about the policy being abused but he will continue to push for its review because county employees are accountable to the taxpayers.
FDL Highway 23 Project Detours
The state’s Department of Transportation tells us eastbound and westbound lanes of State Highway 23 between the northbound Interstate 41 off-ramp and the mall entrance in Fond du Lac will be closed for five days later this month. That will allow crews to pave concrete at the State Highway 23 or Johnson Street and Pioneer Road intersection. The closure will be from 5 am on Thursday, July 21st through midnight, Tuesday, July 26th. Eastbound State Highway 23 traffic will be detoured to take southbound I-41 to northbound US Highway 151 to State Highway 23 and Westbound State Highway 23 traffic to southbound US Highway 151 to northbound I-41 to State Highway 23.
Oshkosh Riverwalk Closure
The Oshkosh Riverwalk section, located on the north side of the Fox River from Jackson Street to the west access point at Marion Road, will be closed to public use weekdays from 7 am to 4 pm today through Friday, July 29th. The public may use the Marion Road and Jackson Street sidewalks in lieu of the Riverwalk during the temporary closure. The closure was originally scheduled in June.
