Green Lake County Highway EF Update

Green Lake County Highway Commissioner Derek Mashuda issued a statement Thursday saying that the repair work will begin on County Highway E and F in Berlin on July 7th for the areas of pavement that failed. It will be a three company, collaborative effort to fix the problem areas the proper way. The closure will remain in place from County Highway D to Walmart in Berlin until tentatively the latter part of the week of July 11th. All through traffic should continue to use the detour. All locals living in the project area should be aware that some areas being milled will be four inches lower that the parallel pavement for a few days. Drivers should proceed with caution. Additional signage was installed to assist with the increased traffic expected this weekend.

Green Lake Boat Launch Closing

Green Lake Police are advising the public that the Park Drive boat launch will be closed on the Fourth of July from 6 am to midnight to allow for festivities and fireworks. Boaters can use alternate landings including the Canal Street boat launch, Sunset Park, Horner’s landing, and Dodge Memorial Park.               

Fourth Of July Safety Enforcement

Green Lake County Chief Deputy Sheriff Matt Vande Kolk says they want to make sure everyone enjoys the Fourth of July weekend safely. He says they will have deputies patrolling area waterways in conjunction with DNR conservation wardens. He says they are concerned about unsafe and intoxicated operation of boats. He says they will also be enforcing fireworks laws. Vande Kolk says a number of fireworks particularly those that fly up into the air and explode are illegal. He says some are legal to use with a permit but only township officials or fire chiefs can approve those permits. He says they will cite people for illegal use of fireworks where appropriate.  

LGBTQ Data Inclusion Act

Congressman Glenn Grothman says the Biden Administration and Democrats are going too far with the LGBTQ Data Inclusion Act. The new legislation mandates that the government question individuals about their sexual preference and “gender identity” when it comes to collecting demographic data in the census and federal surveys. He says the mandate would apply to everyone including babies, toddlers, and anyone else under the age of 18. An amendment offered by Congressman Grothman would have prevented the government from asking those under the age of 18 to identify their sexual preference and gender ID, but the amendment didn’t pass.

Light Up The Lake

Green Lake has an event-filled Fourth of July planned, better known as Light up the Lake. Things get started with a pancake breakfast at the American Legion. There is the Reily’s Pub Run/Walk for veterans. The Rotary Club will serve up beer and brats at Deacon Mills Park at Noon will there will also be cheese curds and sweet treats. Children’s activities begin at 12:30 pm. The boat parade is at 1 pm starting from Sunset Park. The ever-popular Duck Race starts at 3 pm at the Dartford Mill Pond Bridge. Allison Gohlke the Marketing and Event Coordinator for the Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce says ducks can be purchased in advance at Adam’s Rib and the Chamber of Office. You can also buy them at the Chamber’s trailer in the park on the Fourth from noon to 2:30 pm. The parade is at 4 pm beginning and ending at the Green Lake County Fairgrounds. From 5:30 pm to dusk 5 Card Studs will perform at Deacon Mills Park. Then at dusk fireworks will cap off the celebration. The Town Square Community Center will kick off the celebration a day early with the Party on the Pond bash. SEMPLE band will perform from 5:30 to 10 pm on the Mill Pond Terrace. Menominee Park Fourth Of July Activities

Oshkosh officials say there will be family-friendly activities available at Menominee Park on the Fourth of July. The Parks Department has arranged for a Food Truck Rally with 14 food trucks in the park from 3 to 10 pm. Concessions will also be available at the Reetz Ball Diamonds from 4 to 11 pm, and the LakeFly Café from 10 am to 6 pm. The Menominee Park Train will operate from 11 am to 7 pm. Water equipment rentals will also be available during those hours. The holiday will be topped off with a fireworks show at dusk. The rain date for that show is Tuesday, July 5th.

37 Graduate From State Patrol Academy

Governor Tony Evers Thursday welcomed the newest officers to the Wisconsin State Patrol after 37 graduates received their badges at a ceremony in La Crosse. The graduates will join nearly 500 sworn officers assigned to the State Patrol’s seven regional posts across Wisconsin. Among the new officers are Eric Adelmeyer of Lomira who will assigned to Winnebago County, Andrew Lyyski of Waupun who will be assigned to Fond du Lac County, David Welling of Escanaba Michigan who will also be assigned to Fond du Lac County, and Cody Nicholson of Oshkosh who will be assigned to Sauk County. The 67th Recruit Class recently completed 26 weeks of comprehensive training at the Wisconsin State Patrol Academy.
