Ripon Drinking Water Tested For PFAS
The city of Ripon at the beginning of the week released the results of voluntary testing of its wells for Per-and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances or PFAS in its drinking water. It is not uncommon to find low levels of PFAS in drinking water supplies. PFAS can be in fire-fighting foams, stain repellants, nonstick cookware, waterproof clothing, food wrappers, and are used in many industrial processes. They do not break down in the environment and move easily into water. Results of testing showed PFAS compounds were detected in well #9 at concentrations well below health advisory levels. The results also showed that PFAS compounds were not detected in municipal wells #5 and #8. Municipal well #6 was not tested because it is off line for rehabilitation. It will be tested when it returns to service. There’s more information about the testing on the city’s website.

The attorney for 19-year-old Grant Fuhrman recently submitted a motion claiming his client couldn’t get a fair trial given the recent school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. A trial was scheduled to start on May 31st a week after the school shooting, but the trial has now been moved to January 23rd, 2023. Three weeks were set aside for the trial. Fuhrman is charged with attempted first degree intentional homicide for the incident that occurred at Oshkosh West High School on December 3rd of 2019. Vitamin D And COVID
Congressman Glenn Grothman maintains that the medical establishment should have tested to see if taking Vitamin D is effective at warding off the COVID-19 virus. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says an Israeli study concluded those who are deficient in Vitamin D levels are 11 times more likely to die from the coronavirus. He believes if more people had been taking Vitamin D two years ago it would have reduced the death toll from COVID in the U.S. by more than half. Grothman says there probably was no profit for health experts in the U.S. to do a study on the effectiveness of Vitamin D in combating COVID. He says on a more personal note he has lost nine acquaintances to COVID-19.
Breakfast On The Farm
The farm hosting the annual Breakfast on the Farm in Fond du Lac County this month is a fifth generation family farm. Dodger Acres on Schmoldt Road in Rosendale will host the breakfast on Sunday, June 26th from 8 am to Noon. Kevin Madigan is one of the owners operating the 185-cow dairy farm which features a robotic milking parlor. He says when they took over ownership from his parents they had to name the farm and used the nickname that his grandfather went by in elementary school. He says each cow had its own little assistant on their neck that allows them to monitor the cow, but the cows actually work on their own schedule and go to the parlor when they need to be milked and the robotics take over from there. Tickets for the Breakfast on the Farm are $9 in advance and $10 at the farm. Children 5 and under will eat for free. Advance tickets are available at the Envision offices in Fond du Lac, Bluemke’s Hardware Store in Rosendale and a number of banks. They are also available on the Envision website through their events tab.
