Pets Die In FDL House Fire

Efforts to revive two pets rescued from a house fire in Fond du Lac Saturday evening were unsuccessful. Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue was dispatched to 250 Gillet Street at 6:14 pm for a home on fire. When crews arrived smoke was coming from the windows and eaves of the home. The blaze was quickly knocked down and brought under control but not before extensive damage had occurred to the kitchen area. The humane society was called to assist the family and their pets. The Red Cross also arrived to assist the family with their needs. The cause and the origin of the fire are still being determined. (Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue photo)

Kaufman Runs For FDL County Executive

Sam Kaufman

Fond du Lac County Executive candidate Sam Kaufman says his biggest challenge in the special election is making people aware that there is an election tomorrow. Kaufman is the only candidate listed on the ballot. There are two write-ins.  Kaufman currently serves as the County Board Chairperson and is beginning his fourth term on the board. He also is Vice President of the Fond du Lac County Town’s Association. Kaufman believes he can move the county forward in the same direction late County Executive Allen Buechel had it going in. The write-in candidates are Richard Gedemer and Tiffany Brault. Gedemer is the Deputy Director of the County’s Social Services Department and a Fond du Lac School Board member. Brault is a Fond du Lac City Council member.

Drug Recovery Services Not Publicized Enough

For the Tri-County Overdose Fatality Review Team one of their biggest challenges is making people aware of the drug problem and services available to help people recover. Lisa Rollin is facilitator for the team which serves Green Lake, Marquette and Waushara counties. She says drug addiction is a problem even in rural areas. The team is hosting a presentation at the Markesan High School Thursday evening at 5:30 pm featuring speaker Stephanie Good a recovering addict who grew up in Neshkoro. Rollin says it will be eye-opening for adults and middle to high school age kids could benefit from it too.  Rollin says Stephanie’s Story is about hope and resilience and Stephanie shares it as part of her ongoing recovery.

COVID And Big Events

A former member of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says if you’re going to attend concerts or events this summer that draw big crowds you will have to use your judgement on whether to wear a facial mask or take other protective measures. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says he and his wife recently attended a Coldplay concert at Soldier Field in Chicago which was attended by about 50,000 other people.  He says it was out in the open and relatively safe but he chose to wear a mask both at the concert and after he came home in case he did pick up the virus. He says he was also careful about choosing masks without a logo or phrasing that would annoy others with a different point of view.
