Waupun Considering Major Development Agreement

The Waupun Common Council tonight will consider a development agreement with United Cooperative that could bring a $100 million feed and soybean production and grain storage facility to the city. The project would be done in three phases and would be located in the city’s industrial park on the south side of the city. Waupun Mayor Rohn Bishop says it would be located near the Highway 151 and Highway 26 interchanges and will also access Wisconsin Southern Rail. The business would create 50 new jobs with an annual payroll of $3 million. The city will have to create a TIF District to pay for the infrastructure related to the project but Bishop says that will also benefit the city by extending Wilson Drive and Shaler Drive.  The cooperative will be purchasing 65 acres of land for the project for $13 million or $20,000 an acre. All three phases will be completed over the next three years.

FDL County Owned Golf Coursing Operating At Major Deficit

Fond du Lac County Executive Sam Kaufman says the county and its residents need to take a hard look at the future of the Rolling Meadows Golf Course. The county-owned 27-hole golf course on the southwest side of the city of Fond du Lac has an operational deficit of $2.6 million. Kaufman says the county can’t continue to operate the course at a deficit.  He says it’s a beautiful golf course and an asset to the county but decisions need to be made about how to increase revenue at the course or whether to get out of the business of owning a golf course. Kaufman says at the very least the course needs a new club house.  In December of 2020 the city of Mayville sold its city-owned golf course to Leroy Meats.

Lauree’s Trail Unique

Green Lake Greenways members say once complete “Lauree’s Trail” will give the area something unique. Greenways Treasurer Barry Rogers says they got a $150,000 grant to complete the middle section, but they had to take out a $250,000 construction grant that has to be paid off by next May. He says that gives them a lofty fundraising goal for the middle mile. Greenways President Howard Hansen says the trail will also benefit Green Lake and Ripon economically through the visitors that will come to use the trail, shop, eat and stay.  Rogers says it is also unique because unlike multi-use trails in big cities there is no congestion plus you get to view the scenery and a variety of wildlife.
