Fire Damages Home And Two Garages In FDL
Firefighters battled a two garage fire in Fond du Lac Tuesday evening. It happened at 407 Merrill Avenue near McDermott Park just before 7:30 pm. When fire crews arrived a detached garage was fully engulfed in flames. The fire spread and damaged a nearby home and garage. Two vehicles in front of the detached garage were also destroyed by the blaze. Firefighters had the fire out within a half an hour. No injuries were reported. The cause is still being determined. Suspicious Incident Reported In Oshkosh
Oshkosh Police are investigating a suspicious incident that occurred near West 17th Avenue and Delaware Street in the City of Oshkosh about 4 pm Tuesday. A juvenile female was walking near the intersection when a man walked up to her. He tried to convince her that he was related to a friend of hers and that he would give her a ride home. She ran away from him and he didn’t follow. She described him as being white, in his thirties, approximately 6 foot 2 inches tall with an average build. He had medium length brown hair, green eyes and a large tattoo on the right side of his neck. He was wearing a baggy green hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants and a blue surgical face mask. COVID Update
New COVID-19 cases are slowing in Wisconsin with 1,598 new cases reported Tuesday. That was the most in three days, but the 7-day rolling average continues to decline to 1,871 new cases a day. The positivity rate for all tests is now at 12.2 percent down from a high of 14.1 percent 9 days ago. No recent deaths were reported. The Wisconsin Hospital Association Tuesday reported 332 COVID-19 patients in hospitals across the state, which is down 20 from the day before. Of those patients 53 are in intensive care units, which is down 1 patient from Monday.
Area counties continue to see Medium and Low Community Levels of COVID-19 activity. Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Winnebago and Waushara counties are in the medium category and Dodge and Waupaca counties in the low category.
Ag Export Advisory Council Meets
Wisconsin’s Agricultural Export Advisory Council recently held its first meeting and Council members got so much information they decided to meet more often than scheduled. The Council grew out of the Agricultural Export Initiative created by legislation State Senator Joan Ballweg authored. Ballweg sits on the Council. She says industry leaders will be sharing their best practices with the partnership of the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. She says that partnership it is hoped will come up with ways to expand the state’s exports of agricultural products. The state lawmaker from Markesan says so many ideas were shared during the Council’s first meeting that they decided to meet more often than twice a year.
Grothman Says Republicans Need Gains During Mid Term Elections
Congressman Glenn Grothman says Republicans need to make gains during the mid-term elections in November. He says with open borders, runaway inflation and gas prices, and excessive government spending the Biden Administration has us headed in the wrong direction. He says in addition to winning more Congressional and Senate seats the GOP needs to take back the presidency in the next Presidential Election. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah doesn’t mince words saying partisanship aside with what’s happened in President Biden’s year plus in office he is the worst President he’s experienced during his lifetime.
Dodge County Administrator Search
There are four finalists for the County Administrator’s job in Dodge County that Jim Mielke is retiring from in June. The finalists are Rebecca Bell who is the Dodge County Human Services and Health Director, Whitewater City Manager Cameron Clapper, Daryl DeDeker an Assistant Professor of Accounting at the UW-Stevens Point, and Scott Feldt County Administrator for Kewaunee County. Dodge County Board Chairperson David Frohling says the search process began in March and the Executive Committee has been methodical in its search, to date, to arrive at the final list of candidates. The four finalists have been invited to Juneau for a two-day assessment process that will take place on June 6th and 7th.
Time To Register For Green Lake 100 Bike Ride
The Green Lake 100 Bike Ride returns for its fifth year on Saturday, June 4th. There’s still time to register for the event at Green Lake 100 or Visit Green Lake.com. Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lisa Meier says no matter how experienced you are with a bicycle you can take it at your own pace and enjoy the event and the beauty of the area. Riders can choose from 23, 40, 67, and 100 mile routes around Green Lake and the area. There will be rest stops for when riders need a break to fuel up on water or snacks. The $60 registration fee includes rest stop goodies to refuel, dinner, two beverages of your choice, and raffle prizes. Following the ride there will be a meal, live music by local favorite Copper Box, and refreshing beverages brewed by Knuth Brewery, all taking place in Deacon Mills Park. Lunch will be available from 11:30 am to 3 pm.
Oshkosh Sanitation Reminder
The city of Oshkosh Sanitation Division reminds residents that due to the City’s observance of Memorial Day, there will be no garbage or recycling collection on Monday, May 30th. Collections for the remainder of the week will be one day later. Garbage and recycling collection scheduled for Friday, June 3rd will move to Saturday, June 4th. In addition the City’s yard waste drop-off center will be closed for the holiday next Monday. Residential curbside brush collection for June will take place on the regularly scheduled garbage collection day the week of June 6th through June 10th.
Telemedicine Grant Awards
The Wisconsin Public Service Commission awarded more than $790,000 in funding from the Medical Telecommunications Equipment Program, also known as the Telemedicine Grant Program. The funds will support 12 projects that will purchase medical telecommunications equipment to enhance access to medical care in rural or underserved areas, for people with disabilities, or promotes technologically advanced medical services. Among those receiving grants was SSM Health at Home Foundation of Wisconsin. The grant will allow SSM Health to purchase 70 home health monitoring units and associated clinic terminal equipment. The PSC received 15 applications for the grant cycle requesting over $1 million.
