Ripon Man Facing Charges After Cutting Himself
A 54-year old Ripon man is facing charges for trying to frame his ex-girlfriend for self-inflicted knife wounds. According to the criminal complaint Ripon Police responded to an area of West Oshkosh Street and North Union Street on April 12th for report of an individual with knife wounds. When they arrived Ronald Boraders told them the woman slashed his forearm still had the knife and was up the street near their apartment. When police talked to her she said she had broken up with Boraders and had kicked him out of their apartment but he went back in through a screen in a window, grabbed a kitchen knife and began cutting himself on the arm. A knife was recovered in some grass on the west side of Union Street. Campbellsport Park Vandalism
Children who vandalized a women’s bathroom in Campbellsport’s Fireman’s Park will be paying for their actions. Police Chief Tom Dornbrook says most of the recent vandalism was cosmetic. Tips led to parents bringing in the children that were responsible. Dornbrook says he and Fire Chief Craig Olson will be meeting with those involved to determine what they feel will be appropriate action. Chief Dornbrook says it appears younger children were responsible for the vandalism not realizing until afterwards they were in the wrong. He says the police and fire departments are encouraged that parents and the children responsible came forward on their own to admit to the vandalism. The community and fire department have been working hard this year to make improvements to the park. Bathroom facilities at the park are being locked 24/7 and will only be open when the park is rented out for an event.
Child ID Kits
Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul this week announced the distribution of 975,000 National Child ID kits across the state as part of a partnership with the Green Bay Packers, Alliant Energy, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Child ID Program. The kits are being distributed to all K-12 Wisconsin school children and are a new tool to help parents protect their children if something ever does happen. With the kits parents will be able to collect information that can assist with identification if the unthinkable occurs and a child goes missing. Each year, more than 800,000 children go missing in the United States.

COVID Study
Former Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says there have been a lot of studies and polls about the coronavirus but he’s interested in seeing the results of one study he has heard about. Researchers want to find out more about why some people who didn’t take precautionary measures did not get the virus. They are interested in particular in whether that is because of behavior or genetics. In the United States this week the number of people who have died during the pandemic reached 1 million, with 83 million people who have had COVID, and nearly 583 million doses of vaccine administered.

SSM Health RCH Organ And Tissue Donation Recognized
SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital is among 19 hospitals being honored by University of Wisconsin Organ and Tissue Donation for its ongoing commitment to saving and improving lives through organ and tissue donation. The hospital received the Excellence in Tissue Donation Award, which is given to partner hospitals who achieve at least a 60 percent consent rate. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the past two years of award recognition have taken a creative approach. Last year a virtual ceremony included important stories from a donor family and recipient. Appreciating staff demands and shortages this year the recognition celebration was taken on the road to present the awards. Ripon Community Hospital Emergency Department Nurse Manager Ashley Kolberg says, “We are honored to be part of this process and appreciate the recognition we have received from the UW Organ and Tissue Donation.”
