Giannis Antetokounmpo had his second career postseason triple-double to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a 101-89 victory over the Boston Celtics in Game 1 of their second-round playoff series. The Greek Freek scored 24 points with 13 rebounds and 12 assists. Jrue Holiday had 25 points and 10 rebounds and Bobby Portis had 15 and 11 for the defending NBA champions.
The Bucks swiped home-court advantage in the best-of-seven series.
Jayson Tatum scored 21 points and Jaylen Brown had 12 for Boston. Al Horford added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Celtics. Game 2 is Tuesday night in Boston.
In the NBA Western Conference semifinal series Golden State took the first game of their series at Memphis 117-116. In the Eastern Conference semifinals tonight Philadelphia is a Miami and in the West, Dallas is at Phoenix.
On the PGA Tour Jon Rahm won the Mexican Championship Sunday by one stroke over Brandon Wu, Tony Finau and Kurt Kitayama. Rahm finished at 267.
In NASCAR the DuraMAX Dydrene 400 at Dover Motor Speedway was postponed Sunday because of rain and will be held today.
Marcus Stroman threw two-hit ball for seven innings, outpitching Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes and leading the Chicago Cubs over the Milwaukee Brewers 2-0 Sunday. Patrick Wisdom homered as the Cubs ended a four-game losing streak. They had been outscored 20-2 in dropping the first two games of the series at Milwaukee. Stroman (1-3) earned his first win for his new team in his fifth start. Pitching on his 31st birthday, he struck out five and walked one.
Burnes (1-1) struck out 10 in seven innings, giving up four hits. He retired the first 13 batters before Wisdom homered in the fifth.
The Cubs added a run in the sixth when Alfonso Rivas singled and scored on a double by Seiya Suzuki. Chicago reliever Rowan Wick got two outs in the eighth and David Robertson closed for his fifth save.
Both teams will get the day off Monday and return to action Tuesday when the Cubs send LHP Drew Smyly (1-2, 2.79 ERA) to the mound against the crosstown rival White Sox (RHP Michael Kopech (0-1, 1.42). RHP Brandon Woodruff (2-1, 5.30) leads the Brewers resume their homestand against RHP Vladimir Gutierrez (0-4, 7.41) and the Cincinnati Reds.
Elsewhere in the NL Central Sunday the Padres beat the Pirates 5-2, the Cardinals over the Diamondbacks 7-5 and the Rockies pounded the Reds 10-1. The Brewers lead the Cardinals by two games in the division. The Cubs and Pirates at 5 ½ out and the Reds are 11 ½ games behind.
Green Bay’s greatest position of concern heading into the draft remains a bit of a question mark even after the Packers selected three candidates to catch passes from reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers. The Packers had 11 overall picks.
The Packers added North Dakota State’s Christian Watson in the second round, Nevada’s Romeo Doubs in the fourth and Nebraska’s Samori Toure in the seventh as they attempt to restock at wide receiver after trading All-Pro Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders.
“We’re certainly very much of the belief that competition’s going to bring out the best and the cream’s going to rise,” Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said Saturday.
“That’s something that we needed to do, and I think we accomplished that.”
Green Bay boosted its defense and took two Georgia teammates in the first round, with linebacker Quay Walker going 22nd overall and defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt 28th. The Packers took Watson in the second round and UCLA offensive lineman Sean Rhyan in the third round Friday.
On the final day of the draft, they selected Doubs (134th overall) and Wake Forest offensive lineman Zach Tom (140th) in the fourth round, South Carolina outside linebacker Kingsley Enagbare (179) in the fifth and Georgia Tech safety/linebacker Tariq Carpenter (228th), Miami defensive tackle Jonathan Ford (234th), Penn State offensive tackle Rasheed Walker (249th) and Toure (258th) in the seventh.
The Packers ended the draft with three wide receivers, three offensive lineman, three defensive lineman, an inside linebacker and a defensive back.
General Manager Brian Gutekunst didn’t rule out the possibility of adding another veteran receiver to go along with free-agent acquisition Sammy Watkins, who signed with the Packers last month.
As day two of the 2022 NFL Draft wrapped up, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Wisconsin linebacker Leo Chenal with the 103rd overall pick. Chenal, from Grantsburg, Wisconsin, declared as a junior for the draft after leading the Wisconsin defense. He had 96 total tackles, eight sacks, and two forced fumbles while helping the Badgers to a 9-4 record.
