Murder Trial Enters Second Week

A Fond du Lac County jury trial enters its second week today for the 33-year-old Waupun man suspected of killing his grandmother.  The trial for Gregory Spittel started last Monday. He faces first degree intentional homicide and other charges for beating 75-year-old Carol Foreman in the basement of her home and leaving her to die. She suffered serious head injuries during the August 24th 2019 physical assault. Spittel asked a neighbor to call 911 the following day. Officers responded to the residence for what was believed to be a medical call. Spittel was drunk and screaming when they entered and allegedly confronted and threatened them.

RASD Sees Fewer Coming In To Be Tested For COVID

With the rise in COVID-19 cases over the last few weeks kids may be getting out of school for the summer just in time. For children in Ripon the last day of school is June 3rd with summer school starting up about a week later. But Ripon Schools Superintendent Mary Whitrock says the cases they’ve seen have been pretty low. She says they still have a federally funded COVID testing site, but some weeks the number of people that visit for testing is just a handful. Whitrock notes it has been good to see fewer people coming in for testing compared to the numbers they saw in January which was around 500 tests a week.

Ripon Blood Drive Reminder

The Medical Director for SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital says you will probably never meet a person who benefits from the blood you donate, but you will literally be saving lives. The hospital will be hosting a community blood drive from 12 to 3 pm tomorrow. Dr. Shannon Rathke says people who get chemotherapy for cancer, are injured in automobile accident or are giving birth are just a few examples of people that might need blood. She says unfortunately they see blood donations falloff during the summer. SSM Health is teaming with ImpactLife for the drive which is open to the public. Masks and appointments are required for the blood drive. Donors will get a voucher for a gift card or bonus points to shop the ImpactLife online store. To sign up you can call 800-747-5401, extension 4128 or visit the Blood Center.org website. Participants are asked to bring a picture ID.
