5/19/22 Wisconsin Glo to open season this weekend

Back-to-back reigning champions the Wisconsin Glo are back for their 3 rd season. In their
previous 2 seasons, the Glo have an impressive 26-2 record. With big name returners like Jolene
Anderson, Taylor Wurtz and Julie Wojta, along with exciting new recruits like Laken James,
Madison Wolf, and Cori Coleman, this promises to be their best season yet. The team contains
11 Wisconsin Natives, 3 former WNBA players and 3 Miss Wisconsin Basketball winners.
“We’re stronger from all angles this season” Glo General Manager Jessica Roth says. “Every
single player is a top performer as a professional overseas. That, paired with Kate and Joe as our
coaches, creates quite the challenge for our opponents”
The team recently announced Kate Peterson Abiad as their Head Coach and Joe LaChapell as the
Assistant Coach. Peterson Abiad is the current assistant director for the WIAA and previously
served as Head Coach of Cleveland State University and Assistant Coach at UW Madison. She
took Cleveland State to their first ever NCAA tournament and comes with a passion for
excellence. LaChapell brings with him 10 years as head coach of Appleton East High School.
Appleton East girls basketball came 2 nd in the state this previous season. This was their first
WIAA State Tournament appearance since 1998.
The Glo open their season May 21 st at 7pm against the St. Louis Surge and again May 22 nd at 3pm
in their home gym at Oshkosh Arena. The Surge provided the Glo with their only 2 career loses
last season. The opening game also features food trucks from 4-7 pm and a championship t-shirt
giveaway sponsored by 4imprint. Future events include a community concert featuring Starlifter,
rep your team, family night and a habitat for humanity fundraiser. Tickets and information are
