4/7/22 Update On UW Surgeon’s Death In Iron County

7 April 2022 News

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office has issued more information about the death of a UW-Health surgeon whose body was found Sunday morning near the Potato River Falls. Thirty-year-old Kelsey Musgrove of Middleton was reported missing by Middleton Police on March 30th. She had gone to the Potato River Falls in Gurney to hike. Iron County Sheriff’s officials say her remains were partially buried in a steep clay bank along the river’s edge. They say it appears she ventured off the trail/observation area to try to get closer to the river. While walking along the edge of the embankment, it appears the ground underneath her collapsed bringing her down the bank along with clay and rocks. An autopsy revealed she died as a result of traumatic injuries sustained in the fall and that her death occurred within minutes of the fall. The Sheriff’s Office asks that those hiking in such areas stay on marked trails and observation areas. They also ask that when hiking alone to let someone know your route of travel and when you plan to return.
