State Patrol Aerial Enforcement Effort

Watch your speed this week as Wisconsin State Patrol officers monitor state highways from the sky. Weather permitting the Air Support Unit is scheduled to patrol for traffic violations. Interstate 41 in Washington County was targeted Monday, today it is I-90/94 in Juneau County, Wednesday I-41 in Winnebago County, Friday I-94 in Kenosha County, and Saturday I-94 in Dunn County. Aerial enforcement is one way to enhance public safety efforts. From the air it’s much easier to spot drivers who are speeding or driving aggressively. When a pilot observes a violation, they communicate with ground-based units to initiate a traffic stop.

Waupun Police Warn About Scams

Waupun Police say they have been taking reports of residents falling victim to phone and computer scams. In the scams people receive calls from someone claiming to be from a reputable business, such as Amazon, and ask to remotely access the person’s computer. Police says you should never allow someone you do not know to remotely access your computer. There have also been reports of pop-ups claiming a virus has infected your computer and to follow the prompts to have the issue resolved. Don’t trust the pop ups. If you have questions or feel you may have been a victim of a scam call your local police department.

Jury Trial Scheduled For Columbus Man Suspected In Bank Robbery

A four-day jury trial is scheduled in Dodge County court in October for the 43-year-old Columbus man suspected of robbing a branch of the Horicon Bank in the Village of Neosho.  Alan Schade faces 8 charges, 7 of them felonies stemming from the January 26th robbery.  According to the criminal complaint Schade handed a teller at the bank a note demanding money and saying no one would get hurt if it was placed in the bag the teller was given. The teller placed the money in the bag including “bait money” with documented serial numbers. Schade was out on bond from a Waukesha County case and as part of the bond conditions was wearing a GPS ankle monitor. Data from the monitor placed him in the bank at the time of the robbery and at a bank in Ixonia that was robbed two days before that. The trial is scheduled for October 25th through October 28th with a motion hearing set for July 29th.

Work Zone Safety Awareness

National Work Zone Awareness Week wrapped up last Friday, but Fond du Lac County Highway Commissioner Tom Janke says ensuring the safety of those who work on our roads should be a year-round goal. The county experienced a work zone death in December of 2003 when the county highway crew’s Dennis Roeseler was hit and killed by a van on Interstate 41. The work zone was properly signed and barricaded. Janke says they do highway maintenance and construction throughout the year. He says our “Move Over” laws apply to anyone that works on our highways. From 2017 to 2021, Wisconsin work zones have seen 12,441 crashes causing 62 deaths and 4,780 injuries.

FDL County Board Organizational Meeting Tonight

The organizational meeting for Fond du Lac County Supervisors tonight could have a little drama as to who the supervisors will elect County Board Chairperson. Former County Board Chairperson Marty Farrell will start out chairing the meeting. The first vice chairperson Sam Kaufman would be considered the favorite for board chairperson, but he is running for county executive during the special election on June 7th and if he is elected would only be able to serve as board chairperson until then. Kaufman thinks he stands a good chance of being elected by supervisors as chairperson and says the experience would benefit him if he is elected county executive. He also feels it is important to make sure supervisors are assigned to committees where they will have the most impact. The board meets at 6 pm in the legislative chambers of the City-County Government Center in Fond du Lac.
