Town Square Hosts Gumbo Cook Off
26 February 2022 News
GREEN LAKE, WI — Town Square Community Center located at 492 Hill Street in Green Lake is getting a Bourbon Street makeover on Tuesday, March 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. Community members are invited to celebrate Fat Tuesday at Town Square with a decadent feast of gumbo, king cake, and hurricanes in celebration of Mardi Gras.
The event will feature a gumbo cook-off. Local chefs and home cooks alike can register to enter their best gumbo recipe for a chance to be crowned the crowd favorite. Register for the cookoff at greenlaketownsquare.org. There is no registration fee.
“Perfect gumbo starts with a roux that’s nice and smooth,” said Kari Schleicher, hospitality manager at Town Square. “You want to cook together your flour and fat to make a roux by stirring it constantly until it’s a rich brown color. From there, you can make any gumbo to your personal taste.”
Attendees will vote for their favorite gumbo and the winning recipe will be announced at 7 p.m. The winner will receive two tickets to Town Square’s Las Vegas Supper Club event on April 23.
Guests can also try a slice of traditional New Orleans king cake, made by Schleicher. This event is free and open to the public. A cash bar will be serving up New Orleans hurricanes and there will also be a 50/50 cash raffle.
All Town Square events are made possible by our 2022 Platinum Sponsors including Aither State Farm Agency.
