Sports for February 7th
Giannis Antetokounmpo had 28 points, Jrue Holiday added 27 and the Milwaukee Bucks pulled away in the second half to defeat the Los Angeles Clippers 137-113 Sunday night. The Bucks had three players with double-doubles. Antetokounmpo pulled down 10 rebounds, Holidway had 13 assists and Bobby Portis 24 points and 11 rebounds. It is the first time since last April that the Bucks have had three players with at least 24 points in a regular-season game.
Milwaukee led 60-53 early in the third quarter before it went on a 19-3 run over a 2 1/2 minute span to put the game out of reach. Pat Connaughton made four of his six 3-pointers during the spurt and Middleton scored five points. The Bucks’ largest lead was 26 points late in the fourth quarter as they won for the seventh time in nine games.
Norman Powell, who was acquired in a five-player trade with Portland on Friday, had 28 points in his Clippers debut and Marcus Morris Sr. scored 20 points along with eight rebounds. Robert Covington, who was also acquired in the deal, had 13 points.
The Bucks remain in Los Angeles to face the Lakers on Tuesday night.

The Pro Bowl’s Vegas debut was a messy, chaotic show. And Justin Herbert, Maxx Crosby and the AFC stars all won big.
Justin Herbert hit Mark Andrews with two touchdown passes, leading the AFC to a 41-35 victory over the NFC on Sunday in the return of the Pro Bowl. Mac Jones passed for 112 yards and threw a touchdown pass, and the New England rookie also did a memorable rendition of the Griddy in the first Las Vegas edition of the NFL’s annual All-Star game, back from a one-year hiatus caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Herbert won the offensive MVP award after passing for 98 yards and finding the Baltimore tight end for two TDs in the first half of the Los Angeles Chargers star’s first Pro Bowl appearance. Andrews had five catches for 82 yards.
Crosby, from the hometown Raiders, won the defensive MVP award with two sacks, three batted passes and three tackles for loss in a pleasingly sloppy game featuring seven interceptions, with at least one thrown by each of the six quarterbacks.
The AFC has won five consecutive Pro Bowls since the league returned to a conference format in the 2016-17 season. Its players took home $80,000 apiece from Vegas, while the NFC got $40,000.
Kyler Murray passed for 160 yards and three touchdowns for the NFC. The Arizona star made it close when he hit Minnesota’s Dalvin Cook for a TD with 2:36 to play, trimming the AFC’s lead to six points.

The Miami Dolphins have hired San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel to become their new head coach, the team announced Sunday after it was initially reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

McDaniel, 38 and headed for his first stint as a head coach, will take over a team coming off of back-to-back winning seasons but that hasn’t made the playoffs since 2016 or won its division since 2008. McDaniel is the first minority hire of the current head coaching cycle and the 49ers will receive two third-round compensatory picks, Rapoport reported. Miami had two finalists and chose McDaniel over Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, Rapoport added.

Kimberly native Paul Schommer, in the first Olympic competition of his career, helped Team USA finish in 7th place in the mixed 4x6KM Biathlon Relay which tied the best-ever finish for the United States. This equaled their seventh place finish at the 2014 Sochi games. Schommer will compete on Tuesday individually in the men’s 20KM event.

Team USA earned its first figure skating medal of the 2022 Beijing Olympics thanks to a clutch performance from its ice dancers. The U.S. took home the silver in the team figure skating competition after Madison Chock and Evan Bates turned in a season-best score in the ice dancing free program.
The news was not so good for skiing star Mikaela Shiffrin. The defending Olympic champion will not repeat in the women’s giant slalom. Shiffrin’s first of five potential events in Beijing ended in disappointment Monday when she wiped out on her opening run.

Tyler Wahl made a tiebreaking layup with 30.5 seconds left to give No. 11 Wisconsin a 51-49 victory over Penn State on Saturday that extended the Badgers’ home winning streak in the series. After Myles Dread’s layup with 51 seconds remaining capped a 9-0 run to tie the game for Penn State (9-10, 4-7 Big Ten), Wahl’s basket put Wisconsin back ahead. Wisconsin (18-4, 9-3) still had two fouls to give and used both of them over the next 24 seconds. With 6.1 seconds left, Penn State’s Jalen Pickett threw an inbounds pass to Dread, whose deep 3-pointer bounced off the back rim as Wahl pulled down the rebound.
Steven Crowl had 13 points and a career-high five assists for Wisconsin, which also got 12 points from Wahl and 10 from Chucky Hepburn. Sam Sessoms scored 14 to lead the Nittany Lions.
Penn State’s issues this time began well before it arrived in Madison. A delay in the arrival of the team’s charter plane meant the Nittany Lions couldn’t leave State College, Pennsylvania, until Saturday at 1:45 p.m. EST. The Nittany Lions landed in Madison at 2:30 CST, about 2½ hours before the scheduled tipoff.
Wisconsin is No. 13 Michigan State on Tuesday.

The Green Bay Packers promoted John Dunn to take over as tight ends coach for Justin Outten. Outten left to become Denver’s offensive coordinator under new Broncos coach and former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. Dunn worked as a senior analyst for the Packers this season but coached the New York Jets’ tight ends from 2019-20.
The Packers on Saturday also officially announced that Maurice Drayton won’t return as special teams coordinator. His departure had been reported on Tuesday.

On the men’s PGA Tours, Tom Hoge won for the first time in his career as he defeated Justin Spieth by two strokes to take the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Hoge shot a final-round 68 to finish at 268.

The Wisconsin Herd, the NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, lost to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants 113-110.
