Rosendale Brandon School Consolidation Working Out Well
Rosendale-Brandon Schools Superintendent Wayne Weber says the transition from closing Brandon Middle School to moving those students to Rosendale Intermediate School has gone pretty well. The Rosendale-Brandon School Board a year ago this month voted to close the school down due to dwindling enrollment, a move that was calculated to save the district about $68,000. Weber says it was a controversial vote that led to an unsuccessful attempt to recall two of the school board members. But he says that consolidation has gone well and they were able to maintain some jobs as well. Weber points out some of those students eventually would have been going to high school together anyway. A referendum in April if approved would make improvements to three of the district’s four schools and close the other.
Access To Accurate Information About The Coronavirus A Human Right
Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says the Washington Post recently featured an article in which the Pope called access to accurate information about the coronavirus a “Human Right.” Puhlmann-Becker says the Pope basically said we have a responsibility that others get accurate information so they can make informed decisions about their health care. He says the Pope also called on the press to make sure the information they dispense about COVID-19 is also accurate. Puhlmann-Becker says the Pope is absolutely correct that both our health and our health care are human rights.

Water Clarity Readings On Lake Winnebago
The DNR took water clarity readings on Lake Winnebago during the week of January 24th. Fourteen depth readings were taken in six geographic regions of the lake. The average water clarity was 10.7 feet. Officials says strong winds prior to freeze-up and patches of open water that held strong into January likely played a role in the decreased average clarity this season. Water is a bit clearer in the northern portion of the lake with fairly uniform visibility across the entire Winnebago system. They go on to say if stable weather patterns continue leading up to the sturgeon spearing season, spearers could see improved water clarity resulting in a potentially longer Lake Winnebago season again this year. No water clarity readings were taken on the Upriver Lakes. The sturgeon spearing season begins this Saturday.
