2/6/22 FDL Man Rescued From Lake Winnebago

6 February 2022 News

A 51-year-old Fond du Lac man was rescued on Lake Winnebago after his pickup truck broke through the ice a half of a mile north of Frazier Point at Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac. It happened Saturday afternoon as he was negotiating around large ice cracks on the southern end of the lake. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s officials say the truck hit a weak spot in the ice and began submerging.  He was able to throw his phone out onto the ice and then climb out of the truck after the lower half of his body was submerged in water. Once out of the water, he was able to call 911 while walking to a nearby ice shanty and took shelter alongside it to block the wind until being rescued. He was brought back to Lakeside Park West where Fond du Lac paramedics evaluated him Other than being extremely cold, he was not injured. The truck was completely submerged and was marked by GPS coordinates. The owner has 30 days to have it removed.
