Stealth Omicron

A member of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says the latest variant of the coronavirus is yet another argument for having yourself properly protected with vaccine and booster shots. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says we are just starting to get data from other countries where the BA.2 omicron variant showed up. He says it seems to be easier to spread than the BA 1 variant, but the jury is still out on whether it makes you sicker. It is also harder to detect with testing. Because it is hard to detect with testing the BA.2 variant has been dubbed the “Stealth Omicron.” Puhlmann-Becker even though the number of new cases of COVID-19, hospitalizations, and deaths are declining we still need to be vigilant about the possibility of more variants. He urges people to get vaccinated and the booster, wear face masks in closed public spaces, and practice social distancing.

Clearwell Project Discussion Pulled From Oshkosh Council Agenda

City of Oshkosh Public Works staff has scheduled a meeting with the DNR to further discuss all options available for the clearwell replacement project at the Oshkosh Water Filtration Plant. Given on-going conversations with the DNR, items relating to the clearwell replacement project are not going to appear on next Tuesday’s Common Council Agenda as previously scheduled. The items have been pulled by City Manager Mark Rohloff to allow time for further collaboration with the DNR to exhaust potential options before requesting any final Council direction and action on the project. Additional information regarding the project, including background details, residents’ questions and the city’s answers, and residents’ opportunity to register comments, is available in the “Hot Topics” section of the city’s website.

Representative Dallman On Special Committee Appointment

State Representative Alex Dallman says he was pleased to recently be appointed to serve as the Vice-Chair of the newly formed Special Committee on Trade and Supply Chain. The committee will focus on the relationship between the labor shortage and supply chain interruptions and the impacts and barriers this will create for businesses and consumers. The state lawmaker from Green Lake has been pushing for a deeper dive into the problem. He says the committee will be holding informational meetings and inviting business and industry leaders to talk about the issues they are facing, which ultimately trickles down to the consumer in the form of higher prices and longer waits on products and services. The committee hopes to come up with recommendations that might help ease those disruptions. Dallman believes the committee will be an asset to the state.
