Ripon, WI  – The League of Women Voters of the Ripon Area is hosting an event featuring Henrik Schatzinger Ph.D.  He will discuss his book Game Changers: How Dark Money and Super PACs are Transforming U.S. Campaigns.  The book was published in 2020 with updates in finding presented also. The event will be held in Ripon City Council Chambers on March 17th beginning at 7:00pm. The audience will be limited to 25 and masks are encouraged.  Questions may be submitted ahead of time or live during the presentation to lwvriponarea@gmail.com

This presentation will  provide an overview of the changes Citizens United brought to political campaigns and political representation. Dark money and Super PACs will be explained as well as how they function.

This presentation will assist civically engaged citizens who want to learn more about outside groups and their impact on campaigns and public policy. The presentation will make the case that Super PACs and dark money groups qualify as game changers of political campaigns not only because of what these groups can do independently from candidates and their increasing ability to match or even exceed candidates’ financial resources, but because their actions influence the political incentives and strategies of candidates and political parties as well as  political communication.

He is also co-director of the Center for Politics and the People at Ripon College, which organizes numerous events to promote constructive political debate. He has a B.A., Political Science, University of Kiel, Germany, M.A., Political Science, University of Kansas and Ph.D., Political Science, University of Georgia.  The book was co-authored by Steve Martin, A.B., Ripon College, M.A. Colorado State University, Ph.D., The Pennsylvania State University
