Aaron Rodgers has won back-to-back MVP awards. The Green Bay quarterback who led the Packers to the best record in the NFL during the 2021 season, became the second player with at least four NFL MVPs; Peyton Manning won it five times. Following offseason turmoil surrounding whether Rodgers wanted to play in Green Bay, then one of his worst career performances in an opening loss to New Orleans, Rodgers got rolling. So much so that he took his second straight award, receiving 39 votes from a nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the league.
Rodgers also won the award in 2011 and 2014. He’s the fifth Packer to win MVP, joining his predecessor, Brett Favre (1995, ‘96 and ‘97), plus three stars of the Vince Lombardi team: Paul Hornung in 1961, Jim Taylor in 1962 and Bart Starr in 1966.
Tampa Bay QB Tom Brady was second with 10 votes in balloting revealed at NFL Honors. Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp, this season’s Offensive Player of the Year, received the other vote.

The wait is over. LeRoy Butler was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as the announcement was made Thursday night at the NFL Honors in Los Angeles. This was the third year in a row for Butler as a finalist, and he breaks through after watching his contemporaries at the position, Steve Atwater and John Lynch get enshrined in 2020 and 2021. The Packers 2nd round pick in 1989, Butler played his entire 12-year career in Green Bay. He finished with 38 interceptions and 20.5 sacks. He was the first player in league history to record 20 sacks and 20 interceptions.

Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp accepted his award last night as the NFL’s Offensive player of the year. He led all receivers in receptions, yards and touchdowns.

A former Wisconsin Badger is the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year for 2021. TJ Watt was named as the recipient of the award during the league’s Honors show Thursday night. The Pewaukee native recorded a league-high 22.5 sacks with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also had 64 tackles, 48 of which were solo. Watt’s older brother, JJ, has won the award three times. His awards came in 2012, 2014 and 2015.

Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday led Milwaukee with 21 points while Giannis Antetokounmpo was held to just 18 points. Deandre Ayton led the Suns with 27 points. The Suns improved to 45-10 and lead the Golden State Warriors by 4 ½ games in the Western Conference. The Bucks host the Portland Trailblazers on Sunday.

The Wisconsin Herd, the NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, lost to the Maine Celtics 120-115. The two teams stayed close throughout the game resulting in 13 lead changes and six times tied. The Herd was down by one in the third quarter, but Maine went on a 19-4 run to put them up by 12. Maine built their lead to go up by 15 but the Herd rallied back to come within four. The Celtics won the game 120-115. Tremont Waters led the Herd with a double-double with 26 points and 10 assists. Wenyen Gabriel also posted a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Chris Clemons led Maine with 38 points, 15 rebounds and 14 assists. John Bohannon added 16 rebounds, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.
