Man Critically Injured By Falling Tree In Calumet County
Calumet County Sheriff’s officials say a 21-year-old man was critically injured when he was hit by a falling tree in a wooded area in the Town of Woodville late Wednesday morning. The man was part of a group cutting down trees in an area west of North Marx Road. He was taken to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah. Deputies and first responders had a difficult time getting to the injured man having to navigate their way through muddy fields, swampy areas, and the woods. A UTV was used to transport him out of the woods.
Child Struck By Vehicle In FDL
A 10-year-old child suffered minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Fond du Lac after school Wednesday afternoon. Police say the child was walking east on Old Pioneer Road near the area of Ellen Lane and ran into traffic mid-block. A 27-year-old Fond du Lac resident heading west on the road struck the child. Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue took the child to St. Agnes Hospital. In an unrelated incident a 22-year-old Milwaukee resident was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge for impeding officers’ attempts to get the child to an ambulance and investigate the cause of the accident.
Green Lake County Reaches Out To Dodge County About Medical Examiner Services
Green Lake County officials have reached out to Dodge County about sharing medical examiner services. Green Lake County is currently looking for someone to be appointed County Coroner by the Governor following the sudden passing of Daniel Kriesser last November. Green Lake County is considering abolishing the office of coroner and establishing a medical examiner officer in its place. Dodge County Medical Examiner PJ Schoebel told the county board’s Executive Committee this week about Green Lake County reaching out to them. He says services can be jointly used between the two counties. If an intergovernmental agreement is approved the Dodge County Medical Examiner’s Office will oversee all death investigations, coordination of autopsies, and issuance of cremation permits. Details are still being hammered out including part-time staffing needs in Green Lake County. Governor Tony Evers had extended the application deadline for the Green Lake County Coroner position to 5 pm this Friday.
Ripon Common Council Candidates Participate In Forum
All three candidates running for a seat representing District 4 on the Ripon Common Council participated in the recent candidates’ forum put on by the League of Women Voters of the Ripon Area. Doug Iverson, Mike Boscaljon, and Ben Morrison answered questions about city priorities, workforce development, economic development, code enforcement, beautification efforts, broadband expansion and more. Iverson and Morrison have both previously served on the Council, while Boscaljon who moved to the city three years ago from North Carolina is new to city politics. The forum can be viewed on The Ripon Cable Channel’s YouTube page. It was moderated by Fond du Lac County Board Chairman, and Ripon resident Marty Farrell. Next Tuesday’s primary election will reduce the field of candidates running for District 4 to 2 candidates for the spring election in April.
Names Released In Chilton Death Investigation
Police in Chilton have released the names of two people found dead in a home on North Madison Street last month. They are 78-year-old Judith Mastrocola and Matthew Moore who was 54-years-old. No more information will be released about the death investigation while the medical examiner’s report and toxicology tests are pending. They were found by a visiting home health worker on January 19th. Chilton Police say it was an isolated incident.
States Consider Ending Mask Mandate
Nine states including Illinois and New York are taking steps to end mask mandates and other restrictions put in place during the pandemic. Some factors include declining numbers of new cases of COVID-19 and fewer hospitalizations. Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says the mask requirement depends on factors like the type of business or indoor setting and there are still concerns about whether to end the masking requirement in schools due to the lower rate of vaccination for children. He says it is obvious that social distancing is a lot more difficult to pull off in a classroom. In Wisconsin 63.5 percent of the population has received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, but the percentage for 5 to 11-year-old children is just 25.7 percent.
Sturgeon Could Be Leaner This Year
A Senior Fisheries Biologist with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says they are expecting leaner fish to come out of Lake Winnebago and the Upriver Lakes during the sturgeon spearing season. The season kicks off Saturday. Winnebago System Sturgeon Biologist Aaron O’Connell says the size of the fish depends upon what they have been foraging on with bigger fish seen during years when they’ve seen some larger gizzard shad hatches. But he says that’s not the case this year. During the 2021 Sturgeon Spearing season 1,831 fish were harvested on the Winnebago System. Of those 77 weighed over 100 pounds.
No Opening Night Concert At AirVenture This Year
An official with EAA AirVenture says for the first time in nearly 15 years there will be no Monday Night opening concert for the annual fly-in event at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh. Dick Knapinski says the concert reduces the area where they can put airplanes earlier in the week. He says not staging the musical entertainment means they will have room to bring in some bigger aircraft. Knapinski says they will have entertainment at EAA as they always do and plans are still being solidified, but the planes are the big draw to the event. EAA AirVenture is July 25th through July 31st. Tickets are available at the EAA.org website.
