Winnebago County is experiencing “critically high” community transmission. The city will continue to require its employees and visitors inside city-operated buildings to wear face coverings, regardless of vaccination status. The requirement will remain in place through February 28th and will be re-evaluated at that time. Face coverings will continue to be required of riders on the GO Transit city busses as well.

Dallman Bill Would Help Smaller Law Enforcement Agencies

State Representative Alex Dallman this past month joined his colleagues in the state legislature to back a package of bills designed to address hiring and recruiting issues in law enforcement. The state lawmaker from Green Lake is the lead author of one of the bills, which would provide grants to support part-time law enforcement officers and departments with less than 25 officers. For smaller departments, the costs of onboarding and outfitting an officer can be significant, especially if they will only be serving part-time. Another part of the package would help departments recruit officers from out of the state. The bills in the package will allocate approximately $25 million federal dollars to recruit, retain, train, support and equip officers so they can work to keep communities safe.

John McGivern’s Take On Green Lake

Green Lake gets the John McGivern treatment this week on an area TV station. McGivern is the former host of the PBS show “Around the Corner with John McGivern” which featured his particular take on life in small communities. In January of 2019 the program did a feature on Ripon. Now McGivern is back with John McGivern’s Main Streets. He tells us they filmed in Green Lake last July for four days and the results will be seen on WLUK-TV Channel 11 Green Bay Sunday morning at 10 am. He admits he didn’t know much about Green Lake until the visit. He says they chatted with business owners and residents. That included talking with the Norton Brothers, taking a cruise on the lake on the Escapade, and learning more about local conservation efforts. He says Green Lake really is a well-kept secret. A preview party of the episode will be held at the Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake tonight from 5:30 to 7:30. There is no cost, but people need to register with the Green Lake Chamber of Commerce. There is a link on the Thrasher’s website. Those attending will have to wear masks.
