Ice Rescue Along Shore Of Green Bay
9 January 2022 News
Thirty-four people were rescued from Lake Michigan Saturday when a large chunk of ice broke off from the shoreline in Green Bay. Brown County Sheriff’s officials say they responded to a call near Point Comfort at 10:17 am. Also responding were fire departments from New Franken, Green Bay, the Wisconsin DNR, and the Coast Guard. The ice chunk floated about three-quarters of a mile from the shoreline, but everyone on it was rescued. A barge traveling through the bay may have led to “destabilization of the ice.” Officials say the incident should serve as a warning to those ice fishing to be careful. No was hurt during the rescue operation. (Brown County Sheriff’s Photo)
