Charge Dropped Against One Of Two Suspects In Omro Double Homicide Case

A charge was dismissed Tuesday against one of two men suspected in a double murder that occurred in Omro on October 21st of 2020. A Winnebago County judge approved an order to drop a charge against 35-year-old Michael Draine of harboring or aiding a felon. Draine was suspected of helping 53-year-old Andrew Clark cover up the double murder. Clark is charged for allegedly shooting and killing his wife 36-year-old Melissa Clark of Omro and 40-year-old Lavar Wallace of Appleton at a home on Elo Road. Clark is also suspected of trying to cover up the crime by starting the home on fire. Draine originally told investigators he helped Clark because he feared for his life. Draine is now viewed as a potential witness in the jury trial for Clark which is scheduled to start next Monday.

FDL County Drive Sober Results

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 15 suspected impaired drivers during the recent “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. The campaign focused on deterring impaired driving and ran between December 17th and New Year’s Day. During the effort citations were issued for 61 speeding violations, 48 driving after revocations or suspension violations, 9 traffic sign or traffic light violations,  and 11 felony arrests were made. Eight of those arrests were for drug possession or trafficking, and three arrests were for bail jumping. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says, “Drunken driving is entirely preventable. We firmly believe that our intensified enforcement during the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over crackdown and throughout the upcoming year will help deter people from driving if they’re impaired.”

Planning For A New FDL County Jail

Fond du Lac County is moving forward on planning for a new jail, but no hard date is set for construction of a new jail. Fond du Lac County Executive Al Buechel says they recently closed on the purchase of a property for a new jail site, but right now they are concentrating on hiring an architect and doing a site plan and layout. He says they know that in the future they will need a bigger and more structurally sound facility to accommodate county inmates. He is adamant that there is no date set for opening a new jail, but if they put it off to far they will run into housing problems and have to transfer their inmates to another county’s facilitate at greater costs to the county.
