Missing FDL Woman Found Safe
Fond du Lac Police say an 80-year-old Fond du Lac woman who was reported missing Wednesday has been found safe. Friends reported Alma Grace missing after she failed to return home after going out to breakfast at the Oasis Restaurant on North Main Street. She was on foot. Police put out a description and photo of her. A possible sighting of Grace was made in the area of Military and Hickory Street about 1 pm. Friends were concerned about her welfare because she has been known to become easily confused on occasion and may have been wandering. (Fond du Lac Police Department photo)
Oshkosh Firefighters Rescue Two Dogs From The Ice
You can count the Oshkosh Fire Department among the friends of “Man’s Best Friend.” Two dogs were rescued from the ice near the railroad bridge Wednesday morning. Fire department officials say one of the dog’s came to a firefighter that whistled for him, but the other had broken through the ice and was stuck. Firefighters report both were taken to shore and are okay. Neither dog had a collar or tag. Oshkosh Police report the owner of the dogs was located.
ThedaCare Booster Vaccinations Available For Kids
ThedaCare is now scheduling booster vaccinations for those 12 and older. ThedaCare Chief Clinical Officer Dr. Mark Cockley says, “Hospitalizations of children infected with COVID are rising in the U.S. as the highly contagious omicron variant continues to spread.” He adds that multiple studies have shown that booster shots significantly increase protection against infection and severe illness. Appointments can be made through the ThedaCare/MyChart online program. ThedaCare patients and community members can also schedule appointments by calling 920-830-6877 or 800-236-2236. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics at least 7.8 million children have tested positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
Land Purchase For Oshkosh Homeless Shelter Approved
The Oshkosh City Council Tuesday night approved a plan to build a new homeless shelter. The “Day to Day Warming Shelter” currently being used is located on High Avenue, north of the Fox River. The Oshkosh Housing Authority sold some land to the city for the homeless shelter’s new location. It would be at the corner of Broad Street and Ceape Avenue. The Council approved the land purchase Tuesday night for $150,000.
Ripon Area United Way Teaming Up With Webster’s This Weekend
The Ripon Area United Way campaign will be getting a boost this weekend from Webster’s Marketplace in Ripon. Today through Sunday donation’s to the United Way can be made right at the cash registers as you’re checking out your groceries. The Webster Foundation will be matching those donations. United Way Board of Director’s President Jeff Puhlmann-Becker tells us the United Way will also have members and friends there from 2 to 6 pm each day bagging groceries and taking donations. People can also donate to the United Way by rounding up there bill to the nearest dollar. Puhlmann-Becker says they are a little more than half way to their goal or raising $80,000 which will benefit 17 area agencies and programs that serve the community. You can also give by sending a donation to the Ripon Area United Way at P.O.Box 71, Ripon, WI. 54971. Other options include dropping off a check at either branch of Horicon Bank in Ripon or by going to the United Way’s Facebook page.
Ripon Sweet Stroll Next Month
Desserts will get their due next month in Ripon with the first-ever Downtown Ripon Sweet Stroll. It will be just before Valentine’s Day on Friday, February 11th from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Ripon Main Street Executive Director Craig Tebon says it will be similar to their Wine Walks with people strolling to participating businesses where they will be able to sample sweet treats supplied by area bakeries and restaurants. Fourteen businesses have agreed to participate with a goal of getting 20. He says for the $20 cost of the ticket you can sample 10 different items. Tickets can be redeemed beginning at 1 pm that day at the Ripon Chamber/Main Street office. Participants will start from the office that evening and will receive a badge which is good for up to 10 sweet treats throughout the evening. Tickets are available on the Eventbrite website. Community Foundation Of Central Wisconsin Taking Grant Applications
The Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin is taking applications for their spring grant cycle. Last fall the foundation issued nearly $170,000 in grants to 33 programs in Portage and Waushara counties. Marlee Samuels is the Grant and Scholarship Coordinator for the Foundation. She says their mission areas are Arts & Culture, Education, Environment, Helping People and Wellness. She says non-profits, government agencies, and charitable organizations are welcome to apply for grants, but only have until the end of the month to get in their applications. She says the maximum amount you can ask for is $25,000, but most people apply for much less than that. Samuels says about $140,000 will be awarded when they announce the awards in mid-March. Town Square Blood Drive
The American Red Cross is facing a national blood crisis-its worst blood shortage in over a decade, posing a concerning risk to patient care. Blood and platelet donations are critically needed to help prevent delays in vital medical treatments. To help fight this national blood crisis, Town Square Community Center in Green Lake is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a community blood drive on Wednesday, January 26th from 11 am to 4 pm at the center. Appointments are required and can be made online at redcrossblood.org. January is National Blood Donor Month which makes now the perfect time to donate blood and help save lives.
