Senator Johnson Running For Third Term
U.S. Senator Ron Johnson made it official Sunday announcing he will seek reelection for a third term representing the people of Wisconsin. He was first elected in 2010 and reelected in 2016. Johnson says he ran for the Senate to fight for Wisconsinites and it’s clear that the fight is far from over. He says running for reelection is not a decision he made lightly. He says he doesn’t conduct himself worrying about re-election it isn’t his primary motivation. The federal lawmaker from Oshkosh says he will need the support of Wisconsin voters to win reelection. OASD Mask Requirement Extended
In response to current COVID-19 related challenges, the Oshkosh Area School District has extended its face covering requirement for all students, staff, and visitors through January 28th. The District also reduced its staff isolation and quarantine from 10 days to 5 days in certain situations. The change allows the District to use the CDC’s updated evidence-based guidance to continue to mitigate COVID but also have staff return to work faster so that in-person learning can continue. District Superintendent Bryan Davis says, “Our hope is that these changes will allow us to keep our commitment to in-person learning amid a surge of COVID cases that is making staffing our schools extremely difficult.”

Congressman Grothman On Fentanyl Bill
Late last year Congressman Glenn Grothman introduced a bill that would put fentanyl on par with other opiates like heroin when it comes to sentencing someone for supplying enough of the drug to cause an overdose death. A lethal dose of fentanyl is much smaller and far more lethal than heroin. The bill would lower the threshold for fentanyl that triggers a 10-year mandatory minimum sentence for administering a fatal dose of it. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah points out that last year close to 100,000 deaths in the U.S. were attributed to illegal drug use those numbers largely driven by the use of fentanyl. The bill is co-sponsored by Wisconsin Congressmen Tom Tiffany and Scott Fitzgerald, and Texas Congressman Ronny Jackson.
Trump Reverses Stance On Importance Of COVID Vaccines
A member of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says he was surprised to see former President Donald Trump recently voicing support for the COVID-19 vaccines. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says Trump didn’t do much to support the vaccines as they were becoming available toward the end of his presidency. But in a recent interview Trump came out saying the vaccines work as a method of protecting people against the more serious consequences of the disease. Puhlmann-Becker says Trump has been criticized for basically reversing his previous stance on the vaccines, but he’s an important ally for supporters of the vaccine.

New Website For Wisconsin Senior Medicare Patrol
The Wisconsin Senior Medicare Patrol-whose mission is to empower older adults to prevent health care fraud in Wisconsin-has launched a new website to make the organization more accessible to the older adult population. Ingrid Kundinger is the Project Manager for Wisconsin Senior Medicare Patrol. She says, “Medicare fraud, abuse, and errors are a huge problem, and Medicare recipients are constantly being targeted.” The new website has been in development for many months and is now available as a resource for anyone in Wisconsin. The website was made possible by a grant from the U.S. Administration for Community Living, Department of Health Services. Kundinger says sometimes people are afraid to admit they’ve fallen victim to a fraud, but they are not alone. In addition to the website the Patrol has a confidential, toll-free helpline (888) 818-2611.
