Weather Advisories
The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory until Noon Tuesday for Green Lake, Marquette, Waupaca and Waushara counties with bitterly cold wind chills from 20 to 35 below zero. The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 20 minutes.
Meanwhile Dodge County is among several counties with a Winter Weather Advisory until Noon today. Snow accumulations of 2 to 3 inches are possible.
Fire Reported At Ripon Home
The Ripon Area Fire District and several other fire departments battled a house fire Sunday night at N8857 County Road PP in Ripon. Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 5 pm for a garage fire at the home. The garage is attached to the home and the fire may have spread to other parts of the home. We will pass along more details as they become available.
ThedaCare Injunction Granted
An Outagamie County judge Friday granted ThedaCare’s request for a temporary restraining order in its dispute with Ascension Wisconsin. Last Thursday, ThedaCare filed for the temporary injunction against Ascension Wisconsin saying it could cause the community harm by recruiting a majority of ThedaCare’s comprehensive stroke care team. The judge issued an order which directs Ascension to “Make available to ThedaCare one invasive radiology technician and one registered nurse of the individuals resigning their employment with ThedaCare to join Ascension, with their support to include on call responsibilities or: “Cease the hiring of the individuals referenced until Thedacare has hired adequate staff to replace the departing IRC team members.” ThedaCare operates the only Level II trauma and comprehensive stroke care unit in the Fox Valley. An Ascension spokesperson says they did not recruit those team members from ThedaCare that they applied for open positions.
Five People Found Dead In Milwaukee Home
Police in Milwaukee are investigating what they term the homicides of five people found dead in a home Sunday afternoon. Police say they were called to a home near North 21st and West Wright Streets for a welfare check. Inside the home they found four dead men and one dead woman. In a statement acting Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson said, “The murders discovered today on a residential block in the heart of our city are horrific.” He offered his condolences to the families and friends of the victims. Autopsies are scheduled for today.
Lomira Man Arrested On OWI And Weapons Charges
A 57-year-old Lomira man is facing OWI second offense, obstructing, armed while intoxicated and possession of illegally obtained prescription charges following a traffic stop in Washington County Friday night. Sheriff’s officials ay he nearly ran two other vehicles off the road on I-41 southbound at Canary Lane in the Town of Wayne. When a deputy stopped the man, he only cracked open a window and would not show identification or get out of the vehicle. A DOT photo confirmed he was the owner of the vehicle. A deputy and Slinger Police officer physically removed him from the vehicle after he became argumentative and displayed signs of impairment. A loaded and chambered 9-millimeter handgun was found under the front seat armrest and a loaded shotgun attached to the back of the driver’s seat. Field sobriety tests were conducted, and the man was taken to the Washington County Jail.
COVID Positivity Rate In Wisconsin Still High
Last week the state’s chief medical officer Dr. Ryan Westergaard said the omicron variant hasn’t peaked in the state yet even though there are encouraging signs it is waning in parts of the U.S. where it was first detected. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force agrees with that assessment. He says Wisconsin’s positivity rate for COVID-19 is among the highest in the nation. He says our positivity rate 24,000 for every 100,000 people and only one other state has a higher rate. Entering the weekend Wisconsin’s 7-day rolling average for new coronavirus cases was still well over 18,000 a day. Hospitalizations and deaths due to the virus were also quite high.
Congressman Grothman On Biden’s First Year In Office
Congressman Glenn Grothman says President Joe Biden didn’t have many noteworthy accomplishments during his first year in office. Grothman, a Republican, doled out failing graders to the Democratic President in a number of categories. That includes on crime, immigration, government debt and the economy. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah would also give the President a failing grade on race relations saying too many of his programs are divisive. Congressman Grothman says President Biden did get us out of Afghanistan, but he says that wasn’t done very well either.
EMR’s Ready To Go In Waupun
After a year of planning and 8 months of training, the Waupun Fire Department will begin offering Emergency Medical Responder services in the City of Waupun on February 1st. EMR’s are part of the overall Emergency Medical Services system and are dispatched when the ambulance is called to proide initial patient care until the ambulance arrives or assist paramedics once they arrive. Waupun Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director B.J. DeMaa says, “We have been blessed with an amazing group of individuals that want to give back to their community.” He adds the group of 11 has been working hard on schooling and training in preparation for this day.
Representative Dallman Backs Tax Exemption
State Representative Alex Dallman last week joined his Assembly colleagues in passing a bill, which requires an income and franchise tax exemption for restaurant owners who received a Restaurant Revitalization Fund grant. The state lawmaker from Green Lake says the fund was crucial for restaurants to stay in business and retain their employees. He adds that over the past two years thousands of restaurants have struggled to makes ends meet. He says it would make things even worse by taxing those emergency lifelines. Fifteen percent of Wisconsin restaurants have permanently closed since the beginning of the pandemic and thousands of others continue to try to navigate COVID-19 restrictions.
Business Plan A Good Idea
The Director of Small Business and Entrepreneurship for Envision Greater Fond du Lac says it’s a good idea to have a business plan whether you’re an entrepreneur with a start-up or a small business that is looking to expand. Raina Jeffery says it gives you something to work off of and if you need capital will help you with whatever financial institution you go to for a loan. She says another benefit is that it will give you an idea about what it may cost you to see your idea through and whether it will make you any money. Project Website For State Highway 152
The state’s Department of Transportation says a design project website is now available to view proposed improvements on State Highway 152 in Waushara County from Town Line Road at the east edge of the city of Wautoma to County Highway/County Highway W in the town of Mount Morris. Work on the project is scheduled for next year and will include resurfacing of the existing roadway and replacement of culverts and guardrail. State Highway 152 will remain open during construction.

Blood Drive In Waupun
SSM Health Waupun Memorial Hospital is hosting a community blood drive from 11 am to 2 pm on Tuesday, February 15th. The drive-through ImpactLife-is open to the public. Masks and appointments are required. Donors get their choice of a St. Patrick’s Day themed shirt or a gift card.
