The Packers are back on the practicefield today getting ready for Sunday afternoon’s game at Baltimore against the Ravens. Aaron Rodgers likely will not practice much this week with his toe injury that he said bothered him a lot after Sunday’s win over the Bears. But the lack of practice time doesn’t raise a lot of concern for head coach Matt La Fleur as Rodgers has practiced very little since injuring the toe. The Packers are also waiting on the status of left tackle David Bakhtiari and linebacker Za’Darius Smith to see if they’ll get back on the practice field this week.
Meanwhile cornerback Rasul Douglas continues to impress. He returned an interception for a touchdown against the Bears Sunday for the second straight game. Coach Matt La Fleur said he’s very impressed with Douglas’ preparation and time spent on watching film. He’s also filled in on special teams, something the Packers are trying to improve on after Sunday’s disastrous first half performance against Chicago. LaFleur said Monday that other players may have to step in and help out with the unit. The Packers are 10-3 and currently have the number one seed in the NFC while the Ravens are 8-5 and wondering about the status of quarterback Lamar Jackson who left Sunday’s loss at Cleveland with an ankle injury, His status will be carefully watched throughout the week.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is the latest NBA star to be sidelined by COVID-19. The league’s injury report on Tuesday night listed the two-time MVP as out for the Milwaukee Bucks’ game against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday because he’s in the health and safety protocols. Milwaukee’s Wesley Matthews also has entered the COVID-19 protocols and won’t play Wednesday. Antetokounmpo played Sunday at New York and Monday at Boston. He had a triple-double in the victory over the Knicks and scored 20 points in the loss to the Celtics. He’s averaging 27 points, 11.6 rebounds and 5.8 assists this season. Earlier this season, Bucks forward Khris Middleton missed eight games after testing positive for COVID-19. Last season, Milwaukee’s Jrue Holiday missed 10 games for the same reason.
The Bucks went 3-5 in the games Middleton missed after his positive test. Middleton is questionable for Wednesday’s game after leaving the Celtics game early with a hyperextended left knee.
UW-Oshkosh men’s basketball team moved up to fifth ranked in the nation. The Titans are 9-1 this season with their eyes on another NCAA Division III championship. They won it all back in 2019 and advanced to the second round in 2020. They didn’t get the opportunity to compete at this level last season because of Covid-19.
