The transmitter that triggers NOAA weather radios in Fond du Lac County for severe weather warnings was down for nearly four hours yesterday. The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office is accepting monetary donations for a family that’s seen its share of hardship this year. The mother in the family purchased an X box Series X on the internet for her teenage son for Christmas. He suffers from a mobile impairment and the gaming system helps him take his mind off his condition. But the system never arrived. The woman can’t afford to buy another one. On top of that she was hospitalized for her own medical condition and 19 days after she was released from the hospital the family’s home burned down. Anyone who would like to make the family’s Christmas a little happier is asked to drop off or send monetary donations to the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, 1402 Royalton Street, Waupaca, WI 54981. Omicron Variant
A member of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says the COVID-19 Omicron variant is throwing some new challenges at health care workers. It’s not believed to be as severe as previous versions of the coronavirus, but indications are it is more infectious, which Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says is filling our hospitals once again. The other twist the Omicron variant is throwing at our first responders is that it seems to be chipping away at the efficacy for those that have gotten one or two doses of the vaccine, but haven’t received the booster. Puhlmann-Becker says on the other hand the vaccines appear to be even more effective if a booster shot is received as well. Wednesday was the one-year anniversary for the first time the vaccines were distributed.
