Body Found In Winnebago County Six Years Ago Identified

8 December 2021 News

More than 6 years after the remains of a man were found in Winnebago County’s Town of Vinland the man has been identified using DNA. Winnebago County Sheriff’s officials say the remains of Roland Klug of Oshkosh were found by a resident near a set of railroad tracks that cross County Highway GG on April 29th, 2015. Klug was born in 1949, was a veteran who served in the Vietnam War and was originally from the Waupun area. The identification was made in large part with the assistance of a private DNA laboratory in Texas, Othram Incorporated, using a proprietary method called Forensic-Grade Genome Sequencing® to process forensic evidence. Investigators developed a profile for the unknown man to search for distant relatives and DNA comparisons that eventually led to Klug’s identification.  The Sheriff’s Office thanked the County Coroner’s Office, Othram, and Dr. Jordan Karsten of the UW Oshkosh for their help in identifying Roland Klug.
