Wisconsin Gun Deer Season Off To A Slow Start

Wisconsin DNR officials say the 170th gun-deer season got off to a slow start with total harvest down from last year’s 99,832 deer or about 14 percent. Hunters took 85,860 deer last weekend and of that 47,529 were antlered and 38,331 were antlerless. License sales were also down 1.5 percent with 551,809 licenses sold for the gun-deer season. As of yesterday the total harvest in Fond du Lac County is 2,123 deer (1,309 antlered), in Green Lake County 2,090 (1,222), in Dodge County 2,353 (1,416), and in Winnebago County 1,094 (707).  Hunters in Waupaca and Waushara counties had more success with 5,556 deer (3,295 antlered) taken in Waupaca County and 3,888 (2,278) in Waushara County.
