Sports for November 24th

The NFL Network reported Tuesday that All-Pro left tackle David Bakhtiari recently underwent arthroscopic surgery on the same knee.

“David Bakhtiari is feeling much better after the procedure. Hope on the #Packers’ end is he continues to improve through the bye and is back and ready to roll in December, which fits @RapSheet’s recent timeline”

Bakhtiari had been practicing on a limited basis until the Friday before the Seattle game, and than sat out all of practice last week leading up to Sunday’s loss in Minnesota. On Monday, Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur said Bakhtiari would not play this week against the Rams, and the team was hoping he could return after their week 13 bye. The Packers have 5 games remaining after the bye, beginning with a Sunday night game against Chicago on December 12th at Lambeau Field.

Elgton Jenkins, who has played a Pro Bowl caliber LT in Bakhtiari’s absence, was lost for the season with an ACL injury suffered in Minnesota. Yosh Nijman, who started 3 games earlier this season at left tackle when Jenkins was nursing an ankle injury, will start Sunday against the Rams at Lambeau Field.

The Packers have placed OL Elgton Jenkins on injured reserve after he suffered a season-ending knee injury during Sunday’s loss to Minnesota. In place of Jenkins, the Packers signed G Ben Braden from the practice squad to the active roster.  raden originally joined the Packers in October of the 2020 season and played in four games during the regular season and both postseason contests. He has been on Green Bay’s practice squad for all of this season, appearing in two games as a game-day elevation.

The Packers are back on the practice field today getting ready for the Rams on Sunday.  Green Bay is 8-3 while Los Angeles is 7-3.

Former Packers defensive back Charles Woodson will receive his Pro Football Hall of Fame Ring Of Excellence during halftime of Sunday’s Packers-Rams game at Lambeau Field. It will be the second such ceremony for Woodson as he was honored by the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this month. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year.

Men’s College Basketball (Tues.)

Johnny Davis scored a career-high 30 points and Wisconsin beat No. 12 Houston 65-63 in the Maui Invitational semifinals Tuesday. The Cougars erased a 20-point halftime deficit and cut Wisconsin’s lead to two on Kyler Edwards’ 3-pointer with 40 seconds left. With the final possession, Jamal Shead drove baseline and passed to Edwards, who wasn’t expecting the feed, costing the Cougars a chance at a final attempt. Davis finished 10 of 18 from the floor, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range, and was 6 for 6 from the free-throw line.

Tyler Wahl chipped in with nine points and seven rebounds, while Brad Davison also had nine points for the Badgers (4-1).

Houston (4-1) was led by Edwards, who had 18 points — 15 in the second half via five 3-pointers — while Marcus Sasser added 11. Sasser had a chance to tie it with 47 seconds left, but his attempt clanked off the rim to Davis, who was fouled immediately and drained two free throws to push Wisconsin’s lead back to five, 65-60.

Davis sparked the Badgers early, scoring 11 of their first 16 points. The savvy sophomore was red hot from long range inside the first six minutes of the game, draining three 3-pointers to spark a 16-4 run.

Houston, which averages 23 points off turnovers, had just two in the first half as it failed to create pressure on the Badgers to disrupt their offense.

Wisconsin plays Saint Mary’s in the championship game this afternoon.  Saint Mary’s beat Oregon Tuesday night 62-50.

In the NBA tonight Detroit is at Milwaukee. The Bucks are 10-8 and have won four straight while the Pistons have lost three straight games and come in at 4-13.
