Sports for November 23rd

Tests confirmed Packers offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins suffered a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the season. This according to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

This season Jenkins has filled in for David Bakhtiari, who is working his way back from an ACL injury as well, and has excelled at left tackle. Primarily a guard, Jenkins has proven to be the most versatile member of the Packers offensive line in his three seasons with Green Bay with the ability to play every position on the line.

Bakhtiari appears to be getting closer to a return to the field, but missed all three days of practice last week. Head coach Matt LaFleur has assured it’s all part of the process as Bakhtiari comes back from what is usually a nine to 11 month injury.

It would likely be Yosh Nijman filling in at left tackle if Bakhtiari is unable to go this week against the Rams. Nijman made three starts at left tackle earlier this season while Jenkins was out with an ankle injury, but did not see playing time on the line between week five and Sunday’s game in Minnesota.

In Monday Night Football the Buccaneers won at home over the New York Giants 30-10. Tom Brady was 30-46 for 307 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.  Brady spread the ball around as four receivers caught six passes.  Mike Evans caught six passes for 73 yards and a score and Chris Goodwin had the other touchdown.  The Giants Daniel Jones was 23-38 for just 167 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.  New York was held to 233 yards of total offense.  Tampa Bay improves to 7-3 while the Giants fall to 3-7.

Jrue Holiday scored 18 points and the Milwaukee Bucks opened the biggest halftime lead in franchise history on their way to a 123-92 blowout of the Orlando Magic on Monday night. The Bucks’ 77-36 lead at the break also was Orlando’s biggest halftime deficit ever. Before Monday, Milwaukee’s largest halftime lead was a 78-40 advantage over Detroit on Dec. 26, 1978. The Bucks won that game 143-84.

Milwaukee eventually built the margin to 51, becoming the first team to lead a game by at least 50 points this season. The biggest lead this season entering Monday was 45, by Minnesota in a 138-95 victory over Memphis on Saturday.

Milwaukee beat Orlando for the second time in three nights. The Bucks won 117-108 on Saturday. Orlando played both games without leading scorer Cole Anthony, who has a sprained right ankle. Magic coach Jamahl Mosley wasn’t definitive on when Anthony might return.  Milwaukee’s Pat Connaughton scored 17 and shot 5 of 7 from 3-point range as the Bucks won their fourth straight. Bobby Portis had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Giannis Antetokounmpo had 12 points, eight rebounds and nine assists in only 24 minutes. Grayson Allen and Jordan Nwora each added 14 points for the Bucks. Khris Middleton had 12.

Moritz Wagner led Orlando with 18 points. The Magic also got 14 from R.J. Hampton, 13 each from Robin Lopez and Mychal Mulder and 12 from Chuma Okeke.

The Bucks host Detroit on Wednesday to end a five-game homestand. The Bucks have won their last 11 regular-season matchups with the Pistons, including 117-89 in Detroit on Nov. 2.
