Grothman Bill Levels The Playing Field For Sentencing In Fentanyl Deaths

Congressman Glenn Grothman has introduced a bill that would put fentanyl on par with other opiates like heroin when it comes to sentencing someone for supplying enough of the drug to cause an overdose death. A lethal dose of fentanyl is much smaller and far more lethal than heroin. The bill would lower the threshold for fentanyl that triggers a 10-year mandatory minimum sentence for administering a fatal dose of it. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah points out that we recently exceeded 90,000 deaths from illegal drug use in the United States in one year, largely driven by the use of fentanyl. The bill is co-sponsored by Wisconsin Congressmen Tom Tiffany and Scott Fitzgerald, and Texas Congressman Ronny Jackson.

Free Radon Test Kit Offer

The Fond du Lac County Health Department is offering free short-term radon test kits throughout this month to anyone who donates a nonperishable food item. There is a limit of one kit per household. All donations will go to The Fondy Food Pantry. The health department encourages residents to take advantage of this opportunity to test your home for radon and help the community at the same time. Regular testing for radon in your home is an important way to protect family and your health. The only way to know if you have safe levels of radon inside your home is by testing. The kit offer is redeemable Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4 pm at the Fond du Lac County Health Department on the third floor of the City-County Government Center in Fond du Lac. Short Term Radon kits are available all-year round for $10.

COVID Vaccine Fallacy

An SSM Health physician who participated in a COVID-19 vaccine Q & A forum for the Fond du Lac region last week says one of the things he talked about was the concentration levels of the vaccine that ends up in the ovaries. Dr. Ted Miller is Chief of Staff at Ripon Community Hospital and specializes in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He says it’s one of the pieces of misinformation that is out there about the vaccine. Dr. Miller points out a study in China involving mice injected them with over a thousand times the dose of human vaccine. He says 48 hours later they examined the mice and found the greatest concentration of the vaccine, in fact over 50 percent of it, was around the injection site. The next greatest level, 16 percent, was in the liver but only 1/10th of 1 percent was found in the ovaries. Dr. Miller urges people to go to reliable websites or talk with a doctor or pharmacist they trust if they have questions about the vaccine.

More Than A Coke And A Smile

The Coca-Cola Company is offering more than a Coke and a smile to employees who are fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus by December 8th.  According to a recent article by the Atlanta Journal Constitution the company is offering employees a $2,000 incentive if they are fully vaccinated by that date. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says other employers offered incentives to pay for time off to get the shots, but that is the most generous incentive he’s heard of. He says part of the reason for the incentive is Coke has contracts with the federal government to supply its products to them for their different venues. Puhlmann-Becker says the company is even willing to allow workers who can’t get fully vaccinated by the December 8th deadline to work with their human resource staff to pay out the incentive if they get done soon after.
