Air Quality Improvements At Ripon College Help Ward Off COVID 19
The Vice-President of Finance for Ripon College took a lead role in improving air quality in buildings on the campus during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Andrea Young says colleges and universities throughout the country received federal funding to make improvements that would protect students and staff from the coronavirus. Young says they chose to invest in a needlepoint ionization system for their heating, ventilating and air conditioning which essentially kills all bacteria. She points out it will also protect students and staff from getting colds and the flu. Young will become the school’s interim President in January while a national search is conducted for a president to succeed Zach Messitte who retires at the end of the current semester.
ADVOCAP Welfare Check Complimented
One of the benefits of ADVOCAP’s Senior Nutrition Program is the welfare check their home delivery drivers provide for those they are delivering to. Dawn Paterson is the Food Nutrition Director for ADVOCAP. She says some people live alone or don’t have frequent visitors so their drivers make sure someone is home and okay when they deliver food. She says they provide that check at every address they deliver to. The welfare check has resulted in quite a few compliments and a survey showed it is one of the reasons most of the people they deliver to feel secure in living in their own homes. To find out more about the senior meal delivery program call ADVOCAP’s Neenah office at 920-725-2791.

Oshkosh Police officers talking with some homeless living under a bridge by the river found out some of them were working full or part-time jobs but had obstacles to getting a place to live. Namely the large amount of money needed for a security deposit and first month’s rent for an apartment. Working with the Police Lights of Christmas and Day-by-Day warming shelter they were able to secure some of the Police Lights of Christmas program’s donated funds to get two gentlemen an apartment. Meanwhile Day-by-Day staff worked with the two making sure they will have full-time jobs to continue paying rent on the apartment. Day-by-Day staff also assisted the two men in getting an apartment that suits their needs. For the officers that initiated the effort the highlight of their day was watching as keys were turned over to the gentlemen who are no longer homeless.
