Town of Ripon Police Captain Howard Stibb says the man was traveling with three other riders when his ATV hit the shoulder of the road and he may have overcorrected causing the ATV to roll over, throwing him from it. Ripon Common Council Approves Ambulance Billing Service

CWD In FDL County
For the first time recently a wild deer in Fond du Lac County tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease. Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Biologist James Christopoulos says they will be monitoring the deer taken during the upcoming gun deer season. He says CWD causes emaciation, degeneration of the brain, abnormal behavior, loss of body functions and eventually death in a deer. He points out it will take up to a year for advanced signs of the disease to emerge so it is possible to take a deer that has it, but still appears normal. He says the only way to know for sure whether the deer you take is healthy is to have the head tested. Locations for kiosks where the head can be dropped off are available on the DNR’s website. The DNR will also be having an informational meeting about CWD at the Radisson Hotel on Rolling Meadows Drive in Fond du Lac at 6 pm next Tuesday night.
Ballweg Bill Passed
The State Senate unanimously passed legislation authored by Senator Joan Ballweg of Markesan and State Representative Tony Kurtz of Wonewoc which establishes a comprehensive agriculture and agribusiness export program. The bill is on its way to the governor’s desk to be signed into law. The bill will require the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection to work with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to create a plan and achieve export objectives by June 30th, 2026. Those objectives include spending $2.5 million on increasing the value of Wisconsin’s milk and other dairy products, $1.25 million to increase the value of Wisconsin’s meat exports and $1.25 million to increase the value of the state’s crop exports. Ballweg says the program provides an opportunity for Wisconsin to find footholds in emerging markets and to strengthen the state’s second largest industry for years to come.
