Armed Robbery At Kohls In FDL
Fond du Lac Police have one suspect in custody and another in an armed robbery remains at large. Police say two men wearing masks entered the Kohl’s Department Store Sunday afternoon and one armed with a hammer began smashing display cases and taking jewelry. People in the store detained one of the suspects, a 29-year-old man, until police arrived and took him into custody. The other fled the store. He was described as Hispanic with a medium build, and was wearing a yellow and green traffic vest and dark pants. The stolen merchandise was recovered. The man in custody was taken to the Fond du Lac County jail. No one was injured during the incident. Anyone with information about the crime or the second suspect is asked to call the crime alert line at (920) 322-3740.
Rittenhouse Verdict Reaction
In the wake of a jury finding Kyle Rittenhouse not guilty of intentional homicide and four other charges Friday, State Attorney General candidate and Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney issued a statement. Toney says, “Justice not convictions, is the mission of any prosecutor. The not guilty verdicts in the Kyle Rittenhouse case are a clear example of justice prevailing and affirming one’s right to self-defense. Given the evidence, I would not have filed charges in this case.” Meanwhile State Representative Gordon Hintz of Oshkosh said, “Let us all work to transform this painful moment into a turning point in ensuring accountability in public safety, addressing systemic racism in out state, and prioritizing true justice and healing in Wisconsin.”
Fire Department T-Shirt Scam
The state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection is warning residents to be alert for scam texts pretending to sell T-shirts in support of local fire departments. The text messages have been reported in communities across the state and may appear to come from the local fire department but are actually from imposters attempting to steal money and personal information. If you receive a similar text, do not click on any links and delete the message. If you have questions about a fundraiser for a local fire department or similar organization, contact the organization directly through a trusted phone number or contact. The Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue Department was among those fire departments which scammers used for the t-shirt scam.

Deer Not Likely To Have COVID
It’s more likely the deer you harvest during the gun-deer season will have Chronic Wasting Disease rather than COVID-19. A wild deer in the Eldorado area tested positive for CWD this year. As for the possibility of a deer having the coronavirus, DNR Conservation Warden Bill Hankee says studies show they can catch it, but the studies have been inconclusive. He says you’re not likely to contract COVID when you’re outdoors, but should take precautions including masking when you are in a vehicle or indoors with a group like a hunting party. More than 600,000 hunters are expected to participate in the hunt during the 9-day season.
Ripon Area United Way Campaign
The president of the board of directors for the Ripon Area United Way says people who donate to the local campaign can be confident that their money is being invested in programs that serve the community. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says a very small part of each donation goes toward administrative costs with 95 cents of every dollar going to the 16 organizations and 1 program that provide programs in the community. He says this year’s pacesetter for the campaign is the Homan Auto Group. There are several ways to give to the Ripon Area United Way. You can mail your donation to The Ripon Area United Way, PO Box 71, Ripon, WI 54971. You can also visit their Facebook page or visit the Ripon Area United Way.org website.
Ag Ambassador Program
The Director of Agricultural Programs for Envision Greater Fond du Lac says it is good to be back in classrooms teaching kids about the importance of agriculture through their Agricultural Ambassador Program. Amy Ries says the pandemic limited what they could do last year with a lot of kids learning at home through virtual instruction. But they are back in classrooms throughout the county and even outside the county. She says they really do enjoy the time they spend in classrooms with children. She says teachers get their choice of 27 different agricultural programs they can present in the classroom. Ries estimates they’ve seen over 1,000 kids this fall.
