The Packers continue to receive more bad news ahead of the Arizona Cardinals game Thursday night. Another Packers receiver has been placed on the team’s COVID-19/reserve list. One day after Davante Adams was put on the list, Allen Lazard was added to the list.
Lazard’s potential absence would make it even tougher for the Packers to maintain their uncanny level of success in games Adams has missed. Adams has sat out six games since 2019 because of injury. The Packers have won them all.
Defensive coordinator Joe Berry is also going through testing protocols. Head coach Matt LaFleur says he’s hoping for the best. As for Lazard not getting vaccinated, LaFleur says he’s not criticizing, saying everyone has a personal choice.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was asked why the Packers are 6-0 without Davante Adams. He said they’re certainly not a better team without their star receiver but have found ways to win by opening it up with other receivers.
Green Bay has won six straight and is 6-1 while the Cardinals are 7-0 and the only undefeated team left in the NFL.
The World Series got underway Tuesday night in Houston as the Atlanta Braves took game one with a 6-2 victory over the Astros. Atlanta got home runs from Jorge Soler and Adam Duvall to get the victory. But it did come with some bad news as starting pitcher Charlie suffered a broken fibula and is done for the Series. He was struck on the shin by a hard come-backer in the second inning. Morton managed to finish the inning and got one out in the third before being lifted. Morton underwent X-rays at Minute Maid Park that revealed the fracture, and the Braves announced he would miss the remainder of the World Series. The club said it expects him to heal in time to fulfill a $20 million contract extension for 2022 that was struck between the Braves and Morton early last month. Jordan Minter picked up the win in relief.
Morton’s abrupt exit represented a dramatic turn of events after Atlanta took a 5-0 lead while chasing Houston starter Framber Valdez in the top half of the same inning, and a cruel twist for Morton, the former Astro who was the only Atlanta player welcomed warmly during pregame introductions ahead of Game 1.
The teams meet again tonight as Atlanta sends left-hander Max Freid against Houston right-hander Jose Urquidy. First pitch is at 7:09 CDT.
The Milwaukee Bucks are back home tonight hosting the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Bucks are 3-1, having won two straight while the T-Wolves are 2-1.
