Rasul Douglas corralled an interception with 12 seconds left in the fourth quarter that helped the Packers knock off the previously unbeaten Arizona Cardinals 24-21 in a thriller that featured two of the NFL’s top quarterbacks. The Cardinals looked like they were going to rally to win their eighth straight game but Kyler Murray threw the stunning interception on second-and-goal. A.J. Green didn’t expect the pass to come his way, never turned around and Douglas was there to snatch the ball in the corner of the end zone.
Douglas was living the life of an NFL journeyman just a few weeks ago, bouncing between camps and practice squads. Douglas was added to the active roster just three weeks ago when the team needed help in the secondary. He was signed off the Cardinals practice squad, where he spent a few weeks earlier this year.
Arizona led 7-0 after the first quarter only to have the Packers take a 10-7 lead on an Aaron Jones two yard touchdown run and a 21-yard Mason Crosby field goal. Each team scored touchdowns in the third quarter as the Packers scored on a two-yard touchdown pass from Rodgers to Randall Cobb, the first of his two touchdown catches. The Cardinals matched that with a two-yard touchdown run by James Conner. The Packers upped their lead to 24-14 early in the fourth quarter as Rodgers hit Cobb from six yards out. But the Cardinals came right back on a nine-yard run by Conners. Green Bay had a chance to ice the game late in the fourth quarter but on a fourth-and-goal Rodgers pass was batted away and the Cardinals took over at their own one-year line and 3:23 left. They converted on a couple of big third-down plays and had the ball at the five-yard line with :15 left when Murray threw the interception.
Rodgers was 22-37 for 184 yards and two touchdowns. A.J. Dillon led the Packers rushing attack with 78 yards on 16 carries while Aaron Jones had 59 yards on 59 carries as the team rushed for 151 yards..
Murray completed 22 of 33 passes for 274 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. The Cardinals managed just 74 yards rushing on 20 carries.
The Packers won their seventh straight and are 7-1 while the Cardinals (7-1) suffered their first defeat of the season.
The Packers travel to Kansas City next Sunday to take on the Chiefs.
