Good News During Ripon School District Annual Meeting
Ripon Schools Superintendent Mary Whitrock says some good news was shared at the District’s recent annual meeting. She says they are looking at their lowest tax rate in years when they consider approving the 2021-22 budget this month. She says the rate of $8.49 per thousand dollars of value on a property maybe an all-time low for the district. She is also pleased that they will be able to continue the free meals program for community children throughout the year. Whitrock notes they did talk about the decline in state aid, which will be made up for through the federal COVID monies they will be receiving over the next few years. She says a surplus allowed them to hire some new behavior interventionists, teachers, guidance counselors, and school nurses.
LeBron Chose Credible Information Sources Before Getting Vaccinated
Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says the recent announcement that NBA star LeBron James had gotten vaccinated was a good thing. He says while James didn’t endorse getting vaccinated against COVID-19 he did say he had done his research first. Puhlmann-Becker says that may be just as important because there is a lot of misinformation out there and James chose to go to credible sources for his information. He says a lot of people go to Facebook and other social networking sites for their information, but the information is only as credible as the source that is posting it. He says if the post starts out “I heard” it is most likely hearsay and not credible at all.
