Horse And Buggy Driver Dies From Injuries From Dodge County Accident

Dodge County Sheriff’s officials say the driver of a horse and buggy has died after his buggy was struck from behind by an SUV on State Highways 16 and 60 in the Town of Lowell Friday morning. Both vehicles were heading east and approaching the intersection with County Highway J when the accident occurred. The driver of the horse and buggy was ejected and was flown by helicopter to the UW-Hospital with severe injuries. He died there, but officials have not released his name or age. Thirty-four-year-old Eric Schmoldt of Sun Prairie was driving the SUV and suffered minor injuries. He was taken to the Marshfield Medical Center in Beaver Dam. The horse was injured and is being cared for. The accident was reported at 7:10 Friday morning.
