After an off-day Monday the Brewers are in Saint Louis to take on the Cardinals. Milwaukee clinched the NL Central Sunday with an 8-4 win over the Mets. Meanwhile the Cardinals have won 16 straight. A pair of right-handers square off as Milwaukee sends Brandon Woodruff (9-10, 2.52 ERA) against the Cardinals Adam Wainwright (16-7, 3.05 ERA). First pitch is at 6:45 and the game can be heard on AM 1100/98.3 FM, WISS.
There was just one game Monday in the Central Division as the Reds pounded the Pirates 13-1.
After a thrilling come-from-behind win over the 49ers Sunday night, the Packers (2-1) are off today before getting ready for the Pittsburgh Steelers (1-2-) at Lambeau Field Sunday afternoon. He Steelers have lost two straight.
Meanwhile, the decision to go with Yosh Nijman at left tackle for an injured Elgton Jenkins on Sunday night in San Francisco paid off for the Packers. Nijman had a solid game in his first start, helping to protect Aaron Rodgers.
In Monday Night Football the Cowboys dominated at home over the Philadelphia Eagles 41-21. Quarterback Dak Prescott was 21-26 for 238 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Two of those touchdowns went to Dalton Schultz, who caught six passes for 80 yards. The other score went to Ced Wilson. Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 95 yards on 17 carries and scored twice. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was 25 of 39 for 326 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Hurts also led the Eagles in rushing with 35 yards on 9 carries. Dallas improves to 2-1 while the Eagles fall to 1-2 in the NFC East.
Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst says the Badgers’ problems on offense don’t rest solely with their struggling quarterback. Graham Mertz was 18 for 41 for 240 yards with four interceptions and a fumble in the Badgers’ 41-13 loss to Notre Dame. He threw two pick-sixes in the game’s final 2 minutes, 13 seconds. Chryst says his message to the sophomore is to stay positive. Mertz has thrown only one touchdown pass and six interceptions this season. Wisconsin needs its offense to improve dramatically as the Badgers prepare to host No. 14 Michigan on Saturday. The pregame starts at 9:00 with the kickoff is at 11 a.m. and the game can be heard on AM 1600/93.1 FM, WRPN.
Giannis Antetokounmpo says he feels fine as he prepares for the Milwaukee Bucks’ title defense but will be careful with the left knee that he hyperextended during the championship run. Antetokounmpo missed the final two games of the Eastern Conference finals after hurting his knee but returned to earn MVP honors in the NBA Finals. He scored 50 points in a title-clinching Game 6 victory over the Phoenix Suns. Antetokounmpo says that he’s “good to go” but adds that he will have to listen to his body if he starts feeling pain for any reason.
