Human Trafficking Arrest Goals
Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says a human trafficking bust last Thursday that resulted in five arrests had several purposes. He says prostitution is no longer a case of consensual parties arranging sex for money. Now in most cases it involves human trafficking with the victim an unwilling, but reluctant participant. He says they wanted to try and attract some of the victims to get them out of that life and also capture those who were trafficking them. He says arresting those who were willing to pay for the sex was meant as a deterrent for others who might do so as well. Waldschmidt says charges will be referred to the District Attorney’s Office.
Jacque COVID Case Unfortunate
Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says State Senator Andre Jacque contracting COVID-19 and having to be put on a ventilator is an unfortunate example of what might happen if a person doesn’t wear a mask or get a vaccinated. Puhlmann-Becker says while he made his own personal choice it is one that might also affect others he was in contact with. Jacque’s wife Renee sent out a statement Monday saying 5 of 8 family members tested positive for the virus and of three that were fully vaccinated there was one break through case where the person experienced mild symptoms. Meanwhile Puhlmann-Becker says some of the southern states which have seen staunch opposition to vaccination are now seeing an uptick in vaccinations.

The Ripon Police Department went in a slightly different direction this year with the way they celebrated National Night Out last month. They decided instead to team up with the Sweet ‘N Saulty Ice Cream Parlor in Ripon and treat kids and community members to ice cream. Using the ice cream truck they provided an escort through neighbors and went to the four different parks in Ripon. Community Liasion Officer Lindsey Michels says the “Cones for Cops” event worked out well. She says they had some left over ice cream so they decided to treat the students at Ripon College who wasted no time when they heard the music signaling the ice cream truck was in the area. Michels says they are grateful to Tim and Renee Saul of Saulty’s for providing the ice cream.
