Wisconsin Public Service officials say power has been restored for customers in Oshkosh following an outage Monday night. The outage on the northeast side of the city started about 6:15 pm and affected about 3,200 customers. DHS Supports Booster Shot Recommendation
Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services is supporting the recommendation that certain populations who have increased risk of exposure or transmission of COVID-19 receive a booster shot of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at least six months after having received their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. DHS Secretary-designee Karen Timberlake says, “Booster doses are another tool at our disposal to stop the spread of the highly transmissible Delta variant and slow the spread of COVID-19 in communities throughout Wisconsin.” Among the populations the booster shots are recommended for are those 65 years or older, all residents in long-term care, those 50 to 64 with underlying medical conditions. Those 18 to 49 with underlying medical conditions , and those 18 to 64 who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of their job or institutional settings may get the booster shots.

Compassion Fatigue
The president of the Ripon Medical Center and Waupun Memorial Hospital says they are carefully watching those who care for COVID-19 patients at both SSM Health facilities. DeAnn Thurmer says their doctors and nurses are compassionate and care about the outcome of those patients. But she says they have lost a few patients to the pandemic and watched what families have had to go through to keep other family members safe from the virus. She says a second surge of COVID-19 is putting added stress on those front line workers so they are trying to keep the well-being of that staff in mind and work with them on that. COVID-19 activity has been high across Wisconsin for weeks and critically high in some areas including Green Lake County.

Task Force Could Be Reassembled
State Senator Joan Ballweg says one of the things they will take up during their current session is a bill that would reassemble an Urban Search & Rescue Task Force. She says funding for the task force was included in the state budget and once it is approved and signed into law the Federal Government will kick in funding for it as well. She says such a task force had an integral role in rescuing people after an explosion at the Didion Mill in Cambria in 2017. The state lawmaker from Markesan says members from the task force come from fire departments from across Wisconsin and their training goes further for building collapses, water rescues and other scenarios. She says some of the members from the previous task force are still available to serve on it. Ballweg points out the task force’s equipment is still available and is stored at Volk Field.
