A Decision Not Taken Lightly
Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says she understands why the FDA and CDC are taking their time on deciding who should get COVID-19 vaccine booster shots and when. She says it is not a decision that should be taken lightly. As with the initial rounds of the vaccine the booster shots will be prioritized for those most at risk and first responders. Mueller says the FDA needs more data before it gives the go ahead for boosters for younger Americans. She says as with all policy and guidelines during the pandemic the Fond du Lac County Health Department will take its lead from the CDC.
COVID 19 Vaccine Booster Shots
Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says it is good that the FDA is taking its time approving booster shots for COVID-19. He says President Biden misspoke when he said booster shots would become available by September 20th. He says the FDA may prioritize a drug, but it does its due diligence before approvals which is the right way to go about things with the coronavirus. He points out that people may get sick even with the vaccinations, but they are less likely to become seriously ill or die from COVID-19. The FDA has approved booster shots with priority for those over 65-years of age, who have serious health concerns, and for first responders initially.
