Discouraging Looky-loos

He says it is natural to want to stop or slow down to get a look when you see a first responder in action. But he says on lookers have inadvertently become a problem over recent weeks. He says there are good reasons to keep moving. He says you could become part of a secondary accident, infringe on the privacy of the victims, or contaminate a possible crime scene if you go so far as to stop at the scene to get a better look. He also reminds motorists if an emergency vehicle approaches you from behind with lights and sirens going you are required to pull over, which you can’t do if your attention is elsewhere.

Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says one of the biggest drug busts in the County’s history started out as a typical traffic stop. He points out when Deputy Andrew Kohlmann pulled over two Milwaukee men on Interstate 41 southbound near US Highway 151 south of Fond du Lac he had no idea they had over $300,000 worth of illegal drugs in the vehicle. But that’s where his K9 Ace came into play detecting the drugs in the vehicle. The Sheriff’s Department seized 5.1 pounds of methamphetamine, 13.3 grams of crack cocaine, 16 and a quarter pounds of marijuana, a loaded .357 magnum revolver, and drug paraphernalia during the August 18th stop. Waldschmidt says the Lake Winnebago Area MEG Unit will be following up with their own investigation to determine where those drugs were headed.
