Man Wanted In Connection With Oshkosh Stabbing In Custody
Oshkosh Police took a 34-year-old Oshkosh man into custody Tuesday wanted in connection with a stabbing in the city on September 7th. Tanner Kent was taken into custody without incident. Kent was wanted for his role in the incident that happened in the 200 block of West 20th Avenue. Four others had already been arrested stemming from the event including a 33-year-old man on attempted first degree reckless homicide and other charges. A physical altercation led to the stabbing which resulted in life-threatening injuries for the victim who was taken to a hospital.
Incident At Oshkosh West High School
Oshkosh Police responded to an incident at Oshkosh West High School yesterday morning involving a student that was displaying “disruptive behavior.” The school resource officer called for help with the situation at 10:15 am and the school was put on “hold” with all students kept in their classrooms. Principal Erin Kohl says the incident was resolved in about 30 minutes and the “hold” was lifted with normal school activities resuming.
Masking Policy For Ripon Municipal Buildings
Within the next day or two the City of Ripon will require the public to wear face masks if they are entering the City Hall, Police Department, Senior Center or other city buildings. The Common Council approved the masking policy during their meeting Tuesday night to protect city employees and the public from the COVID-19 virus as coronavirus activity is again surging in the community. City Administrator Adam Sonntag says there are exceptions for children under 2 years of age, and those who with medical conditions or religious beliefs that conflict with the policy. The Council also approved interim financing for the $1.5 million Vermont/Parkway street construction project.
COVID Vaccine For Children
Some encouraging news from Dr. Anthony Fauci this week, a COVID-19 vaccine could be ready to go for 5 to 11-year-old children by the end of October. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says that news comes at a time of year when weather will once again force most of our activities indoors and schools have to close their windows. Children make up 30 percent of all COVID-19 cases in the United States now. Puhlmann-Becker says while adults still make up most of the coronavirus cases, children get just as sick from the disease as adult do. He says that’s why it’s important for adults to get vaccinated as well to protect kids who can’t receive the vaccine yet.
Highway 110 Project In Waupaca County
The state’s Department of Transportation is seeking public input on proposed improvements to State Highway 110 between U.S. Highway 10 and State Highway 96 in Fremont in Waupaca County. Construction is currently scheduled for 2027 but could occur as early as 2023. Improvements will include replacing existing pavement, a lane reconfiguration, removing and replacing guardrail and curb ramps. During construction State Highway 110 will remain open to traffic but there will be flagging operations and single lane closures. The public can view materials and provide input through Friday, October 1st at the project website.
Instilling Civic Values In Young People
Tonight at 7 pm the League Of Women Voters of the Ripon Area, Ripon Channel YouTube page or the League’s Facebook will offer a chat function that will allow people to learn about a program partnership in Minnesota which is providing information on civic life. The presentation, Instilling Civic Values in Young People, will be led by Amy Anderson, Executive Director of the YMCA Center for Youth Voice. The Center was created to help build civic literacy and provide leadership experiences for the next generation of K-12 students. New Ag Ambassador For Envision Greater FDL

Envision Greater Fond du Lac has hired Jackie Robinson as their Agricultural Ambassador. Robinson says her new role is a great fit for her background and interests. Robinson will be responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of educational programs related to agriculture for the Ag Ambassador program in Fond du Lac area school districts for students ages 4 to 18 with a primary focus on ages 4-13. She will also assist the department with other events and fundraisers. Prior to joining Envision she was a preschool teacher and administrator for the Lomira School District. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
