Former Ripon Mayor Reaches Plea Agreement On Forgery Charge

17 September 2021 News

Former Ripon Mayor Aaron Kramer has reached a plea agreement on a case in which he forged a signature to replace a judge. Kramer, who served as Ripon’s Mayor from 2003 to 2010, is now serving as the Village of Hobart Administrator. He was in a Brown County courtroom Thursday for a plea hearing and entered a “no contest” plea to a misdemeanor forgery charge. The judge found him guilty and ordered him to pay $700 in restitution and a $500 fine. As part of the plea agreement he will serve no time. According to the criminal complaint Kramer tried to get a municipal clerk to remove a municipal judge by signing another judge’s name to a document without that judge’s knowledge or consent. Kramer’s lawyer said he intends to keep his job as village of Hobart Administrator. Kramer apologized for his actions. Thursday afternoon the Village of Hobart sent out a news release saying the matter will be placed on the agenda of a regularly scheduled board meeting. Village leaders will review the complaint, other relevant documents, and the “Defendant’s Version of the Offense” filed in court Thursday as well as the judge’s decision. (Village of Hobart photo)
