Drive Sober Starts Today
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office is joining law enforcement agencies across Wisconsin for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. It starts today and runs through Labor Day, September 6th. Someone is injured or killed in an alcohol-related traffic crash every three hours in Wisconsin. FDL County Worker Relocation Incentive Program Launched
The Fond du Lac County Worker Relocation Incentive Program has been launched. The program was developed through a partnership involving Envision Greater Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, and Fond du Lac County Capital Resources. Bernadette Ericksen is the Director of Business Client Services for Envision. She notes with 25 percent of the county’s population 65 and older in the next 10 years and 34,000 retirements in that same span they have to get creative about ways to attract new workers. She says the program simply gives businesses another tool to attract workers. If the employee is still working at the business after 12 months the business would be reimbursed up to 50 percent of the incentive capping out at $7,500. The program has limited funding with applications available September 1st. To find out more call the Envision Greater Fond du Lac Economic Development Team at 920-921-9500.
Border Problem
Congressman Glenn Grothman says his latest trip to the U.S./Mexico Border in Texas gives him some new insights into the illegal immigration problem. He says it is a crisis that goes beyond just the number of illegal immigrants entering the country. He says the number of people who entered the country illegally in June was nearly 80,000 and given a similar increase in July that number would be about 105,000. He says a number of people coming into the country were on the same plane he left Texas on. He says the increase in illegal immigrants brings with it a potential increase in crime, overpopulation, and the spread of COVID-19.
Ripon Senior Center Remains Open
Even with the recent increase in COVID-19 activity the Ripon Senior Activity Center remains open and continues offering its programs. Center Executive Director Noreen Johnson says she’s not sure how long that may be the case because they depend on a lot of volunteers who are seniors themselves and are cutting back because of the potential of Delta variant spread. Things like meals, activities and exercise programs in Murray Park will continue for the foreseeable future.
